The Big Four Of Thrash

Somewhere In The Ether…

Metal fans: Cast thy minds back to the glorious days of the early nineties.

There were considered the four big hitters in the thrash metal genre, namely, Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica and Anthrax.

So….all I want you to do is put them in order of greatness. It’s as simple as that

As a bonus, for anyone correlating with my designated order, I will give you a manly pat on the buttocks as we reminisce about the good old days

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Metallica or Megadeth can both occupy 1st or 2nd place depending on my mood!

Anthrax is a very close 3rd. Both the Belladona and Bush eras have fabulous material.

Slayer dead last. I could never really get into them and found them the least creative of the 4.

A thread with the best album pics of the fab four would be an interesting discussion

Somewhere In The Ether…

Can I also make an honourable mention of our very own, Venom?

Were they strictly thrash? Well, it’s debatable but they were nonetheless fucking awesome and certainly heavily influenced some of the big four (Slayer especially)

Chronos, Mantas and Abaddon - I salute you good sirs!

Alice In Hell by Annihilator….now that was a thrash album classic (and I’m pleased to say that the band are still going - albeit a shadow of what they were when they initially exploded on the scene)

I loved Nuclear Assault

One got the impression that they never had any false airs about them and they certainly never seemed to take themselves overly seriously - which translated in quite a few ‘fun’ tracks such as, the ‘Mr Softee Theme.’ (‘ICE CREAMMM!)

Dan Liker wouldn't know a false air if it bit him on the nose

As a guitarist, Megadeth will always occupy top spot for me due to Marty and the dream team era...and the Broderick and Kiko both being insane players

Probably anthrax second then metallica(only bothered about up to and inc puppets). Big Jeff was the only part of Slayer I could get behind.

Turns out I have more of an opinion on that than I thought

Personally:

Metallica; Megadeth; Anthrax; Slayer.

However, in terms of influence in other bands I think it would be:

Metallica; Slayer; Anthrax; Megadeth.
