"Of course we will do you celebrate Christmas with Polish traditions or English? You also celebrate on 24th same as us, don't you? K " Just continuing from the other thread.. Yes.. I try do to a bit of both. Traditionally should cook 12 dishes for Christmas eve but this is not happening with my kids not enjoying some of the traditional meals. So I stick with some favourites and make sure there is an empty plate to welcome a stranger as per our tradition. And "oplatek" bread to share with each other before the dinner which shouldn't start until first star on the sky appears.. plus many others little traditions. Christmas day is British style. Turkey and all that. What about you? | |||

We cut apple in half and if there is a star in the middle it means that the family will be healthy, we eat "oplatka" with honey which is basically just a thin wafer. For a meal it depends, we normally celebrate Christmas with Lorenzo's family so we have proper English celebration and then on NYE we eat Slovak food - sauerkraut soup, potato salad and breaded chicken steaks (although originally it should be carp) K | |||

I always found it fascinating how different countries and cultures chose to celebrate it. Carp is a Christmas eve dish here but I skip it. Too many bones! I always found it fascinating how different countries and cultures chose to celebrate it. Carp is a Christmas eve dish here but I skip it. Too many bones! And congrats on being the first extra time poster "It's a Christmas eve dish in Slovakia too, I just moved it to NYE :D It's also believed that you shouldn't anything that can fly or swim on the 1st of January as your luck can fly/swim away and you also shouldn't empty the bin because you would bin your luck. Aand thank you...I believe it might be my first time as the first poster
