….over Christmas? I’m single and going to be on my own for two whole days. Not a plea for sympathy - I’m very happy that way!

I’m seeking suggestions for a movie marathon. Trilogies would be good. No Christmas movies though. Go for it my forum friends!

Thanks in advance.

Lincoln

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings (Extended Editions), and all nine main Star Wars films as well as Solo and Rogue One. That should keep you busy for a while

Dennis. If you want a trilogy, watch it another two times. Walther Matthau is brilliant in it.

by the big field

Some Great War films about

Full metal jacket

Apocalypse now

Letters from Iwo Jima & flags of our fathers

Das boot

Hacksaw ridge

Dads Army

Or you can try some of the excellent true story films

Hidden figures

The straight story

A beautiful mind

Maybe go world cinema

Once were warriors

Rabbit proof fence

The dish

Old boy

Lady vengeance

Mesrine

Run Lola run

Day watch & night watch

If you like an intense film, I think Iplayer might still have Whiplash available... might also be worth seeing if The Detectorists is also on there for something a little lighter (it’s a series though, not a film- but the best thing the beeb have done in a decade)

Will have a think of a few more while I’m outside

It a shame you don't want Christmas movies, I would have recommended Home Alone.

Godfather 1,2,3.

Bad boys

The dark Knight trilogy.

Sex and the city 1,2.

Expendables 1,2,3

Star Trek got at least 12 films.

What kinds of things do you like? There’s thousands of great films made over the last 60 years! …..I sometimes pick a random year and look at the Oscar and BAFTA nominations / winners

You could go to IMDB and start at the top of the all time best movie list. Some you’ll easily find on streaming sites, others maybe you’ll have to Google.

My advice is if you really want to sit and actually watch the film, not play on your phone as it’s playing in the background, watch some Black and White films or older classics. For example,

Angels with dirty faces B/W

Casablanca

The African Queen

Or even Lawrence of Arabia

If you don’t fancy the classics, maybe world cinema some of those subtitled films.

The lives of others or my favourite Cinema Paradiso.

Don’t just look at modern Hollywood films, go back in time (admittedly Back to the Future trilogy is good) or go abroad and discover classics.

League of Gentlemen apocalypse.

Not so popular with fans of the TV series, I think, but I loved the theme of breaking away from what society expects if you.

Another vote for Dogma.

Jojo Rabbit.

If it's full binge though, I'd go for a long boxset rather than movies. Something like Boardwalk Empire or Sopranos.

I think you could be right. I don’t normally have the attention span for movies but I can easily binge 12 hours of a box set! Weird I am.

Was thinking of re-watching breaking bad but I’ve never seen the sopranos (I know, I know, I’m the only human who hasn’t). Is it on Netflix/prime?
