I know it's not a sexy question...

Does anyone know of a plumber or heating engineer that would change my horizontal radiator for a vertical one before I move in in early Jan? Huddersfield area.

There's no furniture in atm which must make it easier.

And, no, I'm not shooting a porno in an abandoned house

Please be careful which vertical rad you choose as their output can he some what less then a standard convector rad. Please ensure that you have enough kW output to warm the room. Stelrad make one that in very close in output. Sorry too far away to install.

Thank you! The horizontal rad would be hidden behind a sideboard, so I'm guessing a vertical one would be better...

So it looks like I'm shopping for Stelrad! There's a little rad in the same room that I'm also thinking could be taller. And a wood burner for the really chilly nights.

Thank you. It's at least 120 yrs old but has been modernised so well that it's more or less move in ready!

It is being funded by my mum's death and the sale of an ex-marital home, so, you know, mixed feelings!

So, if you're ever in Yorkshire I've a South facing garden - if you're good with a barbecue

I moved into my new place 2 weeks ago OP so congratulations on your new place.

If you don't find anyone through recommendations, search online using checkatrade, I needed a plumber and a roofer pretty quickly and both have been brilliant, they're all rated on their past work etc so it's the best you'll get other than personally recommended.

Don't you ask your friends for recommendations? I'm in the general forum. People here are my friends. Someone might well say, "My nephew is in Dewsbury. He does stuff like that". Or DM me the name of the person who did their house.

If I ask if I can grow leeks in a shady spot with clay based soil do you think I'm asking someone to come and plant the seeds?*

Look at the stelrad k2 vertical range.

To find how much heat the room needs it the volume of room X 45.

Room 3x3x2.5 =22.5

45 Watts per m3 so 22.5 X 45=1012.

That's a general rule of thumb.

I suspect there will be other tools online for you to use.

Well done on your new home. There's a place selling very nice reasonable price rads about 40 mins away from you. Great selection and quality I've bought 3 myself. Message me if you like for details if you like also by giving them your room size they'll be able to tell you the size of rad you need.

Got my new 3 column radiator on order with Stelrad. 12 weeks waiting for delivery! Just as well cant get a plumber/heating engineer in before Feb! Its ridiculous! Actually flirting with doing a plumbing course!

Actually they are pretty straight forward to swap out.. You main issue might be the age of the system and how much gunk has accumulated.

Don't be dazzled by chrome finishes, the output is really poor... But they look pretty!

Haha I had my house fitted with a new system recently and after looking into underfloor heating and fancy radiators, I went with the traditional ones.. guess what they work and I don't care what people think of my radiators

When I moved in my house I had the rads taken off and powder coated in an industrial grey for £80

I used a local plumber who took them off and put them back on for £40

Avoid sites like checkatrade

In my experience, they invariably attract traders out to make a, quick buck

After various let downs and stupidly pricey quotes, I went old school

I walked into a local shop who sell DIY products and asked if they knew a gas engineer

They put me in touch with a guy who lives up the road who, in turn, put me in touch with a plasterer, an electrician, a decorator and a joiner

They're all local, all reasonably priced and, more importantly, they all turned up

Maybe worth a punt if there's a local hardware shop near your new pad

No, it's cos the current position under the window will mean it's blocked by my sideboard. A sideboard I inherited from my mum so I don't want to lose it x

It would still function behind side board. As long as gap is left. The surface with the biggest loss per m3 is windows. Rad are best place under windows for that reason. Also when warm air touches windows the air cools and drops which makes people think there is a draft.

At home we have a large window bay with no rads under it. When sat there it feels so much cooler.

Just beaware fitting a vertical radiator dosnt put out enough heat in the room compared to a standared radiator.

Whilst that rad is under the window it is stopping the cold coming into the room from the window.

Always try moving a radiator to another place instead of losing one.

As goes for wood stove yeah they look loverly as I fitted 2 in scotland ( pics on profile )

Whilst doing other jobs there as well.
