I was behind a goon on an E scooter todayriding as bold as brass holding up traffic on the public highway with no helmet and earphones in his ears. What should be done about this?

They're a little irritating when on the pavement, but for their own safety I'd sooner they do that than try and occupy road space.

Some the of the chances I've seen em take, just left me gobsmacked

The issue is you should have a driving license to use them as they are in the law a Motor Propelled Vehicle so the person should have some basic road sense. Though in Liverpool they mostly used by kids, who have to have been set up an account with help of parents or sibling.

The easiest way is take a few of the parents to Court and add a good 6 points to their licence and they would help the situation and have to use facial recognition every time you use one.

Other then that be patient and learn to live with them as they not going anywhere

They are illegal to use in public full stop. Some councils/areas are trialling them and unless the person is on one of them then they shouldn’t be using them at all

You should wait until it's safe to pass.

I hope to see far more scooters and bikes on our roads and an end to this farce of pretending it's more dangerous to be on a scooter at a few mph than driving around in a huge box of metal.

You should wait to pass safely. If it is a council approved trial scheme they should be on the road, not the pavement, so you need to get used to it.

There is no legal requirement to wear a helmet. And as for having headphones in, are you seriously suggesting you’ve never listened to the radio or music while driving?

This is basically a post saying you have more rights than another human being because your vehicle is bigger or you or somehow more important than they are. Thats not how this society works and is not how the highway code works.

Exactly this. We have them everywhere round here but they are privately owned ones. They change between the road and the pavement depending on traffic etc had to pull my children out the way of a few on the pavement before.

Is there any evidence e-scooters are better for the environment? From studies, they seem to be providing in most cases an alternative to walking or public transport, which implies removing a trivial number of vehicles from the streets, and less exercise.

You'd never see anyone driving a car just to show off. And people are always so considerate in their cars, letting others out of junctions, driving considerately in busy streets, allowing pedestrians to cross, overtaking cyclists at a safely, keeping at a safe distance from other road users, never throwing their shit out of windows. Oh no. They're such a good bunch.

What we really need is more cars.

Plaguing? Do you live in Bournemouth?

There's far men inconsiderate people on e scooters in my area than mobility scooters, and e scooters seem to go much faster and weave in and out of pedestrians by the shops.

One woman almost hit me as I went to walk into Morrisons last week. She was going to ride it straight into the shop.

A mate of mine was pulling out of a jnc. When a e scooter collided with his car. He was stationary and the scooter rider was on the pavement. Damaged front wing and wheel. Police arrived. E scooter rider had no insurance claimed to be injured but wouldn’t go to hospital. Scooter was seized by police. Several weeks later mates insurance company calls up and says that the motocyclist that you hit was injured and is suing. Absolute con. Should ban them or make them all have insurance and pass a course

Cyclists wear headphones and earplugs, they should also be dealt with unless they have a third ear to listen for something a bit more important…. Like traffic perhaps?

You could call 101 as they are breaking the law but there’s too many of them

Rarely see a man on them where I am, mostly mums dropping their kids off to school, kid rides, mum walks, kids go through school gate mum rides home

They're not green.

They're dangerous.

They make people lazy.

That’s not entirely true, to be driven on the road they need insurance, but there’s no issuance out there for them as they are not supposed to be ridden on public roads. You can ride/ drive any vehicle on private property where there is no danger to other users, even tractors come under this
