Has anyone had this? I’ve been doing extensive research. I am going for a gastric sleeve. I’ve just asked my dietician to refer me to tier 2 bariatrics so I can go through the process. I wanted to go abroad but family are against that so jumping through the nhs hoops. I’m so anxious but excited.

You look lovely just the way you are but you seem quite set on it. I hope whatever you decide brings you happiness but I'd be cuddled right up with you given half a chance, gorgeous girl X

I knew a few people who have had it and all had issues.

It's not permanent, the person can gradually eat more and gain weight again.

The horrors of vomiting after too much (small amounts of) food, vitamin deficiencies.

The pleasure and social aspect of food is taken away.

I'd only suggest it as a very last resort for someone morbidly obese.

Read up on the problems/ complications that can occur so you know all the facts.

It does work for some people however. Really hope it goes well for you.

Yeah fully aware of the downsides but hey obesity kills. I don’t want to be dead at 40. So I’ve opted for this. I’m having a sleeve which is 80 percent of my stomach removed so not much chance of it coming back haha! However I can then opt to be bypassed if the sleeve fails. I’ve done my research. I’m opting to have my surgery here rather than abroad and then saving up to go abroad to have the skin removed later on.

I’ve got PCOS and stuff I’ve tried every Diet lifestyle change etc. including laxatives (not proud) and I’ve got binge eating disorder so I’ll be having therapy etc first before deciding on going under the knife but like I say pretty set on it.

My best friend was 32+ stone and she’s now 14 stone she’s lost so much she’s done amazing, she had a bypass.

I was just wondering if anyones got any personal experiences with it here.

Thank you for everyone saying how good I look now but trust me I don’t feel it and my bmi is raised and we all put our best pics on here don’t we lol.

I just don’t want to be like my parents and have strokes and diabetes and heart issues before they’re 70.

Yes, I’ve had the bypass. I’m 7 years out now, there are some issues but it’s a tool that you have to keep working with. Welcome to pm me if you want to talk x

I don’t have personal experience of it, but from a friend I offer this advice. Don’t do it unless you’re totally committed to a change in lifestyle before, during, and after treatment. My friend put all her weight back on with interest after a bypass. You need to be truly on board with the whole thing if it’s to be a success vs a waste of money.

As someone who doesn't know you ,you dont look like you need a gastric sleeve , do you have any health issues? Anything like an underactive thyroid for instance .

No I have PCOS. My bmi is massively elevated and I’m classed as morbidly obese type 3. I do need it thanks though.

Oh I fully intend to stick to the lifestyle changes. I don’t mind not being able to eat lots as long as I can still eat. But the psychotherapy they give you before hand will help x

One of my best friends had the sleeve and it has totally changed her life.

As she can’t eat, emotional eating/comfort eating isn’t an option. She has had to put in a massive amount of work on herself to find new stress management techniques as food isn’t the go to anymore, but I’ve genuinely never seen her so happy.

It’s not just confidence in her appearance, since she’s had it, she’s become confident in all areas. She managed to negotiate an obscene pay rise the other day. She’s a different person and I love it for her.

Good luck with your decision, I hope it works out the way you hope for. As you acknowledge, there are no completely safe paths to follow…

I'm having it done next year, waiting on results from gastroscopy so I can have the surgery scheduled. One thing I will say is it has taken AGES to get to this point. It usually takes a while but with covid etc...

Ahh this is amazing to hear that’s what I’m hoping. Coz right now I feel pretty hopeless. X

Oh I know fully prepared for it to be a long slog. I’ve recently had an OGD and I’ve also been under dieticians already plus my endocrinologist and gynaecologist support my choice so hoping that’ll knock off a few steps at the least. But I’m willing to wait. X

Sorry to burst your bubble but it won't knock off any steps... You'll have to see dietitians, doctors and psychologists appointed by the specialist weight management services run by the hospital you're getting it done at. It's good you're willing to wait though! for me it's taken over 18 months so far and still not got a surgery date yet. Staying hopeful though

I’m already under the dieticians at the hospital I’d have my surgery at so that’s a bonus. They’re already aware of me. I’m aware of the tier systems and hoops you have to jump through it’s not an issue. 18 months vs the rest of my life. I’m willing to wait. I just don’t want to stay big forever. The only reason I’m not going abroad to skip the time is because my family don’t want me to annoyingly. I’ve been quoted a good price and package in Turkey with amazing reviews but they’re anxious I won’t get the after care I need.

So yeah I’m willing to wait. I’m sure covid hasn’t helped the list times. Hope you get your date soon. Good luck.
