Following on from my Grim up north thread an In the interest of balance I’m off down south next week to Kent & Surrey. I’m wondering the following….

Will these southerners support their area as staunchly as the northern folk?

Are the southerners as friendly as the northerners claimed to be?

Is there a clear north/south devide?

Answers not on a postcard but in the comments below, who will come out on top?

We support our area but not by insulting or comparing unfavourably with other areas.

Southerners may be reserved but we are kind, helpful and welcoming.

The beaches and countryside are stunningly beautiful while we have some historic towns and cities that played a huge part in shaping Britain as we know it now.

There is a clear north/south divide if you buy into the old stereotypes.

Hope you enjoy your visit to our area and receive a warm if discreet welcome.

As long as you try to avoid living in one these new towns, that sprung up quickly in the aftermath of ww2, like harlow down south or skelmersdale ooop north..it's tolerable.

I live in one of these new towns by the way.. A 1950s soviet union contraflow system has more soul..

I worked with some people who came down from the north to London. They would say hello and talk to strangers on buses / tubes. I’m like ‘What are you doing? This is London. We don’t like people talking to us on London transport.’

Moved from South to north 20 odd years ago.

Much friendlier up here, more chilled. That's just life in general, so it's no wonder the people are as well.

We hate everyone equally though, we like to be fair.

a wise southerner once wrote .... northerners are like piles. when they come down and then go back up they're tolerable. but when they come down and stay down they are a pain in the arse.

Was down Kent in sandwich and ramsgate in September. Place was lovely Found everyone we met nice also.most loved the northern/geordie accent

Miserable as hell along the south coast, people won't look you in the eye or say hello in the street unless they know you.

My parents live near Sheffield/Chesterfield and we've noticed when visiting how much more friendly people are up there.
