That's a hard question. I went my whole childhood without Christmas.

I think I might go with Christmas crackers. They really don't have great stuff inside them at all. Unless you spend mega bucks but even then! And they just take up space on the table.

We have eradicated the sending of Christmas cards... woohoo. We donate to charity instead and that's a much more satisfying experience.

We (Mr NBVN and I) do not buy gifts for each other at Christmas, it less stress, less unnecessary expense and instead we spend a little extra on birthdays and treats for each other throughout the year.

Gifts. We buy what we want through the year anyway, and are both pretty sure we love each other.

And then family and friends who know our financial situation feel obliged to buy us expensive things as they think that’s what we’d like, and equally we feel obliged to buy expensive gifts without really knowing what people want which seems a bit of a waste.

Whole things a mess, our best would be a £20 max secret Santa among everyone and call it good.

No matter how many times we’ve tried a no or limited gift policy it just hasn’t worked though. And it’s awful seeing what some people go through around this time of year and the anxiety and financial pressure isn’t what Christmas should be about.

The whole Christmas dinner and the expectation around the event.

I’ve gotten married, had two children, separated, taken on 3 step children, moved a handful of times, and helped my OH through serious illness.

Non of this compares to the stress of cooking a Christmas dinner!!!

Left me me it’d be steak, chips and egg!

I have numerous friends who live in the UK who decorate for halloween, have halloween parties.

There are over 24 countries that celebrate All Saints Day, Mexico celebrates Día de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, which honors the dead.

Halloween, also known as “All Hallows’ Eve,” is celebrated on October 31st, the day before All Hallows’ or All Saints Day. All Hallows’ is a Christian festival celebrated in honor of the saints. The celebration stems from the belief that there is a powerful bond between those in heaven and the living. Christians held the belief that during Halloween, “the veil between the material world and the afterlife is at its most transparent.”

So, as far as it being just an “American” holiday…it isn’t. !!!

Funny people saying they hate crackers & cards; as I’m a crafter I save all the crackers as when you cut them a certain way, it looks like bunting, so perfect for DIY cards during the year.

We have special ‘family’ cardboard shaped hats from years ago and everyone has their assigned one :D

Have to agree on the piped music-used to work in retail and the CD would go on mid October and not end till start of Feb
