I'd stay at the Adelphi. It's not modern but I enjoy that. A bit like being on a big windy old ship but if you can tolerate 'charm' then stay there.

If you just want a bed for the night and some food and somewhere to bath or shower you've got it right there.

The hotel is next to the main station Lime Street so the location is good.

The staff do have 'extra problems' to contend with because the place is vast and antiquated and we have just had covid but they do an excellent job under any circumstances.

Some of the negative reviews that people give say more about them than about the places they stay. Everyone is Egon Ronay / Alex Polizzi these days. Bloody experts about nothing. Moan if their chips are over cooked instead of showing some breeding and speaking politely to a waiter they 'hit their phone buttons'

If I was at a do at the Adelphi i'd stay at the Adelphi.

Worse things that's every happened to me there is I once got a room opposite an all night club and the starch on the sheets made my knees n elbows red but my room was the size of Amazon ..... I like the place.

If you are after modern luxury - book elsewhere.

Like I say ..... It's olde worlde but it has beds, hot water, clean sheets, food .. bars...... lounges to lounge in .... a pool etc ....

Don't blame me if you are too stuffy to enjoy

It’s perfect for the city centre, only stayed there once for one night but it was fine.

If your usual choice for a hotel is a Premier Inn or Travelodge then you’ll find the Adelphi a bit run down and dated. But it’s what it is, just like Britannia in Manchester you can see it’s former glory and it does have its charm.

In Liverpool it does get mocked by the locals but in most cases it’s done in an affectionate way.

It’s a part of Liverpool city centre that hasn’t died (yet), another beautiful building is quite close and used to be Lewis department store, sadly closed and lost to the City. So whilst the Adelphi is still there make the most of it, as I suspect it can’t last much longer.

My works Christmas do was there in 2012 and the company put us up there.

It was grim. The bathroom was filthy, and there was no light in the bedroom so I couldn't see the dodgy stains on every bit of fabric until daylight the following day.

The lift broke down between floors and the emergency button took us through to reception who just laughed at us!

The function room was beautiful and the meal was great, but the company had paid for a free bar and the bottled ciders were out of date (not ideal when it was a medical nutrition company who were very hot on food and bev hygiene).

It's a great location and is really cheap, but I'd recommend taking flipflops or slippers with you - there is no part of the floor in the rooms you want to put bare feet onto.

The sad thing is, it really does. It's such a grand old lady but it needs so much work doing to make it presentable that it'll either end up being knocked down or converted into flats.

Ideal if you want to meet someone in your room. I like to be on my knees blindfolded while my meet walks in and uses my mouth to dump his load before leaving without a word. I’m staying there 29th & 31st March.

It was a stunning hotel once; you walk in and the marble hall is stunning

But it’s dirty and run down. Last time I stayed there the radiator was hotter than the sun and it took an age to find my room which was on a half floor.

But the bar is worth a visit later in the evening as it make the Star Wars bar look normal

Stayed here many years ago. The rooms were rank, not sure the sheets had been changed from previous guests & windows didn’t open.

The actual hotel is stunning but the owners/management need replacing & it needs to modernised without losing the charm.

Breakfast was epic though!!!

We stayed at the youth hostel just past the docks a few times - clean, comfy beds, clean bathroom & great breakfast. That was with female friends though. T wouldn’t stop there

Has a shocking health record and is regularly slated in the local press. As someone who works in city centre and lives nearby, I would strongly urge people to try other hotels for similar prices.

If you want luxury / willing to spend a little bit more, titanic hotel at Stanley dock is the best

Also on a side note, avoid the shanty hotel unless you like rooms for 16 people with one bathroom

Oh but it's an absolutely brilliant hotel to wonder off in and explore. We love to and even enjoyed joy riding the luggage trolleys. The rooms although not in particular great condition have a bed you can sleep. Absolutely love this hotel (and in all honesty) in terms of the staff, the character and the endless corridors to explore. Just make sure you check your life insurance before booking and never pay anything other than a very cheap price to stay (we have sometimes seen silly prices advertised).

I've stayed here a few times. I've NEVER had an unclean room.

Granted it was a noisy night but it was a really hot summer's night and I was right opposite a night club.

Not the hotel's fault.

I'd stay again.

You need to stay on a certain floor - they keep it for hen & stag do groups. And I totally understand why but it’s tarring everyone with the same brush
