Derby

No Broad or Anderson on a green wicket in overcast conditions. Wood has good pace and Robinson seems decent but can't see them getting the Aussies out cheaply.

wolverhampton

Thankfully I don’t have BT Sport so I’m spared watching live. I will listen to TMS though in the vain hope of some overcast weather which will help Woakes and Robinson.

Jimmy is carrying a calf strain so we need to manage his workload. I expect him to return for the next test in Adelaide where we can expect seam-friendly conditions.

"Without our best two test pace bowlers, I’m not sure how we plan to do that!!!

I can only think arrogance played a role in the decision. Thinking “yeah, we can score 400 on here”.

Worst decision since Nassers infamous “we’re gonna have a bowl” moment.

I think the Gabba is generally a bat first wicket o inreckon he played the reputation rather than the conditions.

That’s what makes Joe Root such a poor captain in my view. He’s got it so wrong many more times than he has right.

I’m struggling to think of many, I hate the thought of Ben Stokes, would rather he just played. For all his failings as a batsman, maybe Jos Butler, he studies the game a lot, seems very intelligent. Maybe some responsibility matures him as a test player.

If he could stay injury free and get a run of consecutive matches behind him….

It's the hope that kills you! A lead of 200 would make it very interesting. Joe and Malan need daddy 100s.

Well, that was a pleasant surprise to wake up to. I still think it’s the Australians to lose. Big scoring will at least make take them to day five. I was expecting the game over when I woke up.

Sadly, Joe has this habit of not getting started again when he’s finished a day near 100. I hope that proves untrue and they both go on to the 3 figures.

Dismal start.

I used to watch all the time when I had sky sports. Lost track of the players a bit now.

Hope they got something up their sleeve...

Going to need it

I had already given up on this before getting into bed last night.

Quietly confident now. If Stokes and Buttler get going and a decent lead at the end of Day 4, any result is still possible

True! It's crazy how much a good session or a good spell if batting and bowling can flip a game on its head. I love it!
