Somewhere In The Ether…

A quickie question: Is/are there any particular skill/s that you have always wanted to learn but have never actively pursued?

And following on……What has been your reason for not pursuing them?

Gymnastics, ive always wanted to be able to do it but never really had the chance or opportunity to do it (mostly due to life events and circumstances). I mean sure i could out on the grass and practice but the last time i tried a back flip i landed on my neck

Wood carving, really wish I could that or stained glass making. One day I'll get around to learning one of them, haven't got the time to commit to it yet

I wouldn't say I have a fear of failure anymore, but I am afraid of proving those who said I'm useless/worthless/never achieve anything right. That would be more painful than them saying it and even if they never found out I mucked things up, I'd know they were right and that's too much to bare.

I’ve always wanted to fly, but the obvious stumbling block is a big financial one.

Maybe one day before I shuffle off.

Music is my biggest passion, and I play a few instruments to varying degrees of proficiency, but I'd happily trade all of that for the ability to sing.

I wanted to learn to play the ukulele. I thought it would be a great party trick but haven’t got the time, patience or any musical talent

I think that everything I’ve wanted to try I’ve done tbh. There are things that when I can I want to go back to such as bouldering though I’ve lost the needed strength in my grip and fingers

Always fancied that but have never been able to haul my own body weight. There’s a bit too much timber of the old frame.

It’s actually more about leg strength than upper body to begin with. Ignore the pros you see they are superhuman

Try it. But take it in small manageable steps, so as not to overwhelm yourself and set yourself up for failure.

I’d like to do some musical or artistic, but I’ve come to terms long ago I just don’t have a talent for either of those things.

DIY and mechanics. I'm honestly crap with tools and don't have a clue what goes on under a car but I think of how much money I can save if I could just do bits by myself.

I guess what's stopping me is I wouldn't want to do anything wrong and make it worse

Mr NBVN is a climber and we have a finger board above one of the doors in our living room. My 14 year old son can now reach it and he has started using it more than Mr NBVN

"I’ve always wanted to fly, but the obvious stumbling block is a big financial one.

Same here, I've been up in a two seater on 6 occasions, done aerobatics as a passenger on the first flight and gave the pilot a running commentry all the way through.

Turns out that was better than listening to back seaters throwing up, loved every minute of it.

I also had my first helicopter flight, about 6 years ago. Got the video footage to prove and an ariel photo that beats Google Earth of my previous address.

There are two really cheaper options. Take up gliding or paragliding (only done a taster session) if you want to feel the air on your face.

There are plenty of clubs around the country, give it abash.

Flying IS addictive.

Piano!!

I’ve always wanted to be the guy that sits on one in an airport / pub / restaurant and blasts out John Legend all of me…and of course sing along to it (would completely clear a room)!

And I haven’t because life just gets in the way…shit excuse I know!!

"To play the piano. I learned a little when I was young but dropped it at a young age. Wish I had the time to learn."

I'd love to do that too as the piano is my favourite musical instrument but sadly, early onset arthritis in my hands say otherwise.

I'd quite like to take up archery one day.

Ooh, Archery! Yes!

I've done it a few times, and seemed to be a natural with it (well compared to the others), so would like to give it a better go.

Again, time gets in the way.
