I appreciate that at 39 I'm no longer the prime target for high street fashion designers, but as I still look far younger than I am and still have the physique to pull off a good look, I'm finding it a nightmare shopping as most of what is out there for men I wouldn't be seen dead in, and nor would I have gone for the current looks in my early 20's either. Any of you other chaps finding this? I desperately want to refresh my wardrobe now we're emerging into normality and I'm back out socialising again, but the majority of clothes on sites like Mr Porter, Uniqlo, ASOS, USC etc are ugly as hell, it's like a rehash of the worst looks from the early 90's

Yeah I find there’s a gap between looking too young or too old

So I wear skinny jeans, ripped jeans, t-shirts that cling to me and shirts with half my buttons undone…

I’m hoping it’s a middle age range or maybe I’m just clinging on to trying to look young!

I say go with what style suits you best. Rather than asking yourself if youll look good in something, just go with what you like, try to build outfits together. Often the clothes that best suit you are the ones you feel most comfortable being in, and i dint mean comfortable as in wearing trackies and a simple tshirt, comfortable as in clothes youre happy to wear without feeling anxious about wearing them.

You dont even need to shop for popular designer clothes, if they happen to be popular designer brands then thats just how it turns out. Im not one to shop for designer brands but i fucking love DC shoes! For one its more of a symbol of my style anyway, but i also love the style, especially when it comes to shoes. I have numerous pairs of DC shoes from trainers to walking boots. But then many of my clothes are just unbranded and plain.

Confidence and letting your style flourish is what makes you look good, not the brands themselves

Yep totally get you. Next is awful now unless you are super skinny and age 12. Try Paul smith, All Saints , John Lewis , even sine of MS Autograph , Jeanstore do Levi’s and Lee and mix that in with London Markets,

Non designer t shirts often better quality and cheaper. Just avoid big brash logos (she says, looking a complete chav in profile pic )

Yeah I'm usually T-shirt/shirt and jeans and have never been a sl.ave to 'on trend' fashion, but even finding T-shirts and jeans that I like is a challenge at the moment and has been for probably the last five years. I do find things I like but have to really look for them.

I shop at NEXT as Top Man seemed a bit hipsterish and I'm not old enough to shop at M&S yet

Things like jumpers and t shirts can suit men of any age but I always go for tapered jeans instead of that skinny or boot cut style that doesn't suit me at all

I'm similar, but with a loads of sports kit too. I'm athletic and get hacked off in most shops as most stuff swamps me rather than compliments me..

My basic rules are split sport and casual. If I'm in sports, it in performance kit and it comes off once my sport is done. If I'm not doing a sport, I don't do "athlesure" look or the "I'm wearing gym stuff, but not near a gym" look, I hate it. Never jogging pants or sweatshirts. If you're built more by either athletic figure or cut from the gym, I'd go more fitted stuff, pay a bit more but expect a better look.

Stuff from Paul Smith, John Lewis and some of the others is decent stuff. If I'm in work mode, I never slob it. If I'm in casual, it's more "casual pint and around town" then "casual scruffy Netflix" look, but that's just my tastes.
