There's something that just hits different about watching a live Test match at night, work in the morning be damned!

What are your thoughts and predictions on the upcoming series?

I couldn't believe it! Most likely nerves there from Burns but just completely missed a straight one

Went to bed after Root was out genuinely expected to see them all out for double figures. I suppose England had a recovery of sorts.

Shocking management and captaincy. Who the hell decides to bat on a green wicket, with the potential for weather disruptions too? Resting James Anderson, fair enough, he’s likely to be more effective in the next game than this one. But resting Stuart Broad as well, isn’t 6 months rest enough?

Different Ashes, same old story. Dreadful management decisions, dreadful preparation, dreadful organisation.

Possible whitewash

On the basis of what I watched so far, that’s not a bad shout. I will defer my judgment until after I’ve seen how the bowling unit get on tonight.

Come back in the morning when the Aussies are 500/2

I had every intention of staying up for the first session, within 20 minute I changed my mind. Our batting is awful, as bad as I can remember since the mid 90s.

I fear it’ll be 4-1 Australia

Credit to Starc and Cummins though. They’ve evolved into incredible fast bowlers over the years. Stepping out of the shadows of past greats.

. ,,, ,,, ,,, ,,, ,,, ,,, ,,, , I did think that after the first day and reading your summary your prediction of a whitewash was a little optimistic , we will now have to settle for a 4-1 England win

I am afraid it will be a 5-0 to Australia. Root, great batsman but very poor captain
