I feel like I'm guilty of this, especially on weekends. As soon as I wake up recently, I just have a to-do of what I need to get through. Everything essentially seems like a means to an end with that end being relaxing in the evening haha

I realised I’m

Always trying to fill time with things as I should be doing something.

Last night I was boiling a full kettle for my hot water bottle. It’s a clear one that has lights in it. I just watched it boil then until it stopped bubbling. Instead of finding something to do while it was boiling.

Ok this sounds a bit of a boring story but my point is it calmed me. I wonder how many of these little moments I/we miss out on and how much of a difference it would make if we used them?

When our kids were young our lives were frantic. We'd get in from work and be loading the washing machine before even taking our coat off, making dinner with one hand while helping with maths homework with the other. Nowadays we enjoy extended periods of what other people call "doing nothing" and we call just being.

I think it would make a huge difference if people just took a minute out if their day to breathe. When I told people I was stopping paid work at 57 every single one of them said "but how will you fill your time?" or "you will have to find something to occupy yourself".

It seems that people think your life has no value unless it's productive in economic terms or you need to be constantly doing something to be worth anything as a person. I think a lot of people are missing out on quality time because they're busy doing uneccessary things.
