"I work in recruitment, I see dozens of V's a day. I hate CV's with pictures on and yes potentially you will be juded by something other than your employment record. To me the CV should tell me about you and the covering letter why you want, and what you can bring, to that particular job. You need to sell yourself but not oversell and that can be a difficult line. A big no no is effectively duplicating the CV and covering letter, I get bored reading the CV then. Also, the covering letter is the first impression so make sure it is grammatically perfect. Anything more than a couple of paragraphs is to long for a covering letter. If you are applying via a site like Monster and when you submit the CV it asks questions don't lie. An example - I was recruiting for an admin role in a school and asked for people with previous experience in a school. People will say yes because they know that's what you want to hear, well if I look on the CV and it's obvious they havent then the applicant is deleted regardless of how good they look. Why? How do I know what else they have lied about? Answer truthfully and then you'd still get considered. And don't lie about anything else. You are selling yourself and recruiters know that, but oversell yourself too much and it bites you. Tell me that you were a senior PA and if I ring for a reference I get told you were an administrator then basically you are fucked because again I will assume that you have lied about everything. " Thanks very much for that....I will make sure the covering letter has enough information to make the reader want to check out the CV without boring them to death lol | |||
