Why do so many people copy/pasting these statements on their profiles? Like those Facebook status updates people copy and paste. It’s just a scam

Yea it’s just rubbish. But I’m surprised how many people believe in it.

Theres an awful lot of ppl who believe the earth is flat. Something like their images being used by any group or organisation is much easier to believe, of course that still doesnt make it true

It’s a sign of someone totally clueless about how any of this stuff actually works. I do like the parody ones.

Some people think that these so-called legal statements give them additional credibility and kudos, but it does the exact opposite!

How is it a scam? No one is losing money or being taken advantage of by putting that text on their profile.

The Mods have said in the past that all these Legal Notices, take up unnecessary server space. It also means nothing!

We've noticed that people even have the actual Facebook disclaimer which shows that they haven't even read it themselves before copying and pasting.

Many people use the existence of a fatuous legal paragraph on a profile as a filter in deciding who to not to converse with.

Exactly this. I guess it's doing no harm, but does make me question how savvy they are and gives me similar vibes to when you see people sharing lost pet posts on FB... from 5 years ago and a different continent, never mind country!

How they think a statement about Facebook has any relevance is beyond me and I've seen a fair few lately here

A scam. Fraudulent. It’s a bogus statement that doesn’t do what the people copy/pasting it thinks it does. It’s like chain mail, people pass it on without understanding it, but driven by fear about what will happen if they don’t.

Tons of these do the rounds on Facebook, where people think they need to copy paste something on their profile to get legal protection, stop their account being misused, etc.
