Ok, so I never really appreciated how women drivers can get hassled... Until driving out dressed myself.

Then it hit home.

Same with getting approached on a night out, walking between venues.

I guess it's easy to be ignorant of another viewpoint.

How have others changed or learned a different perspective here?

Delightful Bliss

Education is the only way forward. the new public sexual harassment offence plans that will be announced next week helps an awful lot, especially to nip it in the bud in secondary schools

Think they’re right though in not allowing misogyny to be considered a hate crime….I think that was stretching it!

Whilst I agree it can be horrid for someone to endure I don’t think it should be considered in the same bracket as racial hatred etc!

But I am hoping it makes for a better society and allows people to feel safer!!

I've never wolf whistled, or called out women.

I just consider it bad manners.

Is that down to education or upbringing though?

Do young men lack role models?

(I don't want to make this a man thing only, btw)

Not sure on perspective but I have felt uneasy about the fact that a lot of “straight” men approach me (on fab) wanting to do dirty things to me!

Somewhere in Co. Down

I've never realised how much pressure was on men until I joined here and saw how if they ask a question quite often they get smart answers or are vilified as though they are stupid. If a woman asks the same the reaction is completely different.

It opened my eyes to a lot that happens not only on here but on real life too.

Men are told to man up (which is an awful phrase) if they say something upsets them. As though showing emotions or talking about things is bad.

And I suppose the biggest thing that I find quite unbelievably is that every man is supposedly responsible for any abuse or attack on a woman both on here and in real life, and they should take responsibility for other arseholes behaviour. Which is complete and utter bullshite the ones responsible are the ones doing it not everyone else of that gender.

I've seen men mention how they got attacked by women and some others laugh at them as tho they were less masculine because it happened. To me these men are as much victims of abuse as any woman who gets attacked. But their abuse seems to get swept under the carpet as tho it's somehow less important when it's not it's just a bad and sometimes worse as they can be scared to speak out due to the reaction they get off some.

I'd second that thumbs up.

I think you have more perception than I will ever manage.

Another thing I learnt from a different forum, talking about non sexual things.

I found I would naturally align with certain people on viewpoints, and that gender was not a separator. So much in society tries to align us into classic stereotypes, but we are often more complex than that.
