Have you ever just walked out of a job? I would never leave a job without having something to replace it straight away!!

At my place we have had a couple of people just walk out in the last year. I think another did it today and one was thinking about it.

If you have, why and how did you do it? One guy today polled his friends on Facebook about it and a lot of replies included pooing on their bosses desks

I was a bakery manager for Sainsburys for 9 years. I was very unhappy there for the last couple of years. I drove in one day, parked in the car park and could not take my hands off the steering wheel... that was enough for me. I walked in and handed in my notice. I had no job to go to and it has taken me 10 years to get to the same salary level that I was on then. Do I regret it? Nope, not one Iota. I still hate going in to Sainsburys, just because of the memories of the stress!

I did walk out of one garage,

un known to the boss another garage wanted me to work there.

The boss really got to me one day so i just packed up all my tools and walked out, just stopping at the door long enough to give him the keys.

went to the new place and said i`m a week early

Wow. I guess if I ever got to that point walking out would be the best option. My friend used to suffer panic attacks in the car park and I had to go talk her down a few times

The reasons these people are walking out for just seem trivial but I think that because they are young and they don't have a lot of work experience any little thing that doesn't o their way impacts them more

Both my daughters did. The eldest has a husband with his own business the other lives with me.

I bet they wouldn't have been so cavilier without backup!

I walked out of my job at the revenue after my boss told me I couldnt have a day off to see my son. I loved the job but management were a bunch of tossers.

we had a row and I said "fuck this Im going home" and walked out. I was very lucky and had a job paying roughly the same in private industry roing much the same thing the next day. I called the office, said to my bosses boss that I was not going in again and was resigning as of yesterday.

after being bullied for 18 months wlking out was one of the most liberating things I have ever done......

Twice, years ago. Wouldn't do it nowadays for fear of being jobless for too long.

One was from a chemist that had piped 'pop' music covers on a loop, by day 3 I thought either my head would implode or I'd massacre the shoppers, manager was walking passed so I handed him my lovely blue apron and told him I just couldn't stand it anymore and left.

The other was a Cash n Carry, one day sat at the till with a huge queue of shop keepers in front of me... I realized once again, nothing should be THIS dull, I looked at my friend Kathy in the next till booth, she looked as miserable as I did, she looked at me, we both looked at the exit, back to each other, grinned, grabbed our coats and ran out of the place at high speed laughing like banshees

Hull

My parents did this in the mid-70's.

They made the decision on the Friday of their first week back at work after their annual holiday, not only to get out of their jobs, but to move to a different area. My brother and I were already working away from home, so it wasn't a problem for us.

Within a month, they'd sold the house, had all their furniture and belongings put into storage, given up their well paid jobs and moved down to the West Country.

For a few months it was major upheaval, but it was worth it. My parents could not have been happier, less stressed and more content with the jobs they did find.

I wouldn't have the bottle to do what they did!

I had 5 years with them as a line manager, crashed my car one night on the 25 mile drive home and called the manager to tell him my car was a write-off and I couldn't open up the next day.. he swore down the line at me as it meant he would have to get up early.. no how are you.. I feel the same way about them now too

I'd worked for Kwik Save for 6 years. Worked my way up to Deputy Manager from shelf stacker, then found out exactly why we'd had a high turnover of deputies. Handed my notice in after 6 months of crap from both the store manager(who I'd previously thought of as a mate), and the other staff who were in her little circle and she'd manipulated into viewing me as a little hitler. Got to admit, I downright laughed my ass off when, another 6 months later, I heard that the guy who replaced me(who'd been ready to do so virtually straight after I'd left), quit by way of storming into another store and flinging the store keys at their manager

Well I have been tempted a couple of times but its not the way you should do things no matter how pissed off you get even if I have an open job offer. Walking out just destroys your dignity and professional pride.

Many years ago I worked at an Indian Takeaway delivering food. I did it for about 2 years until the owner became a first class pain in the rectum.

One night he was really pissing me off, so when I had about 4 meals ready to go into the car to deliver, I turned around and pelted every one at him as he stood behind the counter.

There was curry and shit from arsehole to breakfast time - he was covered.

Oh how good it made me feel. Stupid twat

paid me for the night as well then told me to go .... or he'd phone the police. I told him that he could phone the Queen if he so desired but it still wouldn't alter the fact that he was covered in curry and he had no driver for the rest of the night

I worked in a nursing home for 4 months, then realised I was pregnant for the 2nd time. I went for my new moving n handling assessment and was given a list of clients I was to avoid in the mornings, afternoons, bedtimes etc. Some were too stressed in the mornings and may have caused me actual bodily harm. Others simply too heavy to help for toileting etc, etc. Anyways, upon the complains of the other workers, I was thought to be 'only pregnant' and could be handling much more than I was. One shift, I was pulled into the office n warned to carry out my tasks just as the others were! I was made to use the hoists on carpets, ALONE whilst 6 weeks pregnant. Needless to say, I began feeling ill after 1 week. Dizzy, sick constantly for a week n not able to get out of bed, let alone work. I started feeling guilty when my partner received a call saying I was only pregnant, most women experience morning sickness an if I want the job, I should return to work which I did!... 2 weeks later, I all of a sudden needed picked up from work, was so dizzy n faint feeling etc. I was a lil while of my planned 12 weeks scan, so was booked into the e.p.u, where I was told all was seeming fine. This put my mind at ease. I was told to go back to work, but I felt so unwell I could not get out of bed. They were awful to me, attitudes were disgusting. I was sighed off for 2 weeks needless to say. I did go on to find the baby had stopped growing at the 12 week scan. I never went back. I do blame them. I do think they never did enough to protect me, and used the job over me so I felt I had no option. People with power and all that

Bloody hell... Whilst reading your message I was picturing the scenario in my head and found myself having a real good laugh. I would loved to have seen the shoppers faces at the time.

I have done it 3 times with the same company, and the first two occasions, they were able to find me another job within the same company.

The last time I walked, I was in a hurry as it was too upsetting to be working in the same office and living in the same house with my then hubby when we were going through a divorce.

I did not have another job to go to, and I was out of work for over 3 months until I eventually found another job.

Nowadays, I shan't walk out without another job lined up.

I did once leave a job without another job to do to, couldn't stand it there and its where I got addicted to coffee, hated it so much used to drink 5 cups before leaving the house, then drank non stop all day. 9 people left in the 8 months I was there, which includes me so you can tell it wasn't a good place to be though one of those was asked to leave.

Now whilst in loads of debt and having to do a second job, I am working at a place I love and doing a job I love, been there 5 yrs this month, cannot see me leaving it unless they change the locks
