....talking to a lad the other day about bands that just haven't hit the mainstream but are really really good, still gigging locally maybe regionally. But never quite got the publicity they deserved.

He is a big fan of Millburn (came up at the same time as The Artic Monkeys, but didn't get the same push). I mentioned Sky Valley Mistress who are one of only a handful of musicians/bands that I really took notice of, having the "wow who's that" moment (the one prior being Amy Winehouse).

So who doesn't get the musical love they deserve.

My vote

Sky Valley Mistress - rock n roll

Tracey Thorn (EBTG)

Much better vocals than Adele, so why isn’t she more revered?

Hubby said.

Violet Orlandi, she has an amazing voice and she's mega fit.

I think Leo Moracchioli is a great singer and musician, he does covers but he's amazing.

Elliot Smith is probably the greatest songwriter ever in my opinion. Committed suicide in the early 2000s, a true genius, never gets mentioned to often

Because I guess people never zone in one the best thing, if her vocals are better (subjective, but let's go with it) are her lyrics, music production, physical looks (Hey, sex sells, has for a long time), personal back story, video styles and so on etc, is she rubbish at interviews or does she eschew fame maybe. So many reasons, but if you like her (or any niche/lesser known artist) then great, no need to compare to the top of the tree.

Her vocals on Massive Attacks Protection is league's ahead of anything Adele will ever do

There’s an Australian born busker who now lives in Glasgow called Malachy, his rasp and tone are incredible not to mention his guitar playing! Recently released an album which you can stream called Drifter, well worth a listen.

The twilight sad -Another Glaswegian band, the lead singer is a friend from school I saw thief live at a small gig and can honestly say it’s one of the best performances I’ve witnessed

Nathaniel Rateliff and the night sweats

St Paul and the broken bones

Are another two favourites of mine xx

I just don't think you can say that, they are so wildly differing styles and audiences. Might as well compare cheese and chorizo. And this is from someone who adores Massive Attack, and loves all the crazy amazing leftfield vocalists they're used over the years (Liz Frazer being who I might choose over Thorn)

Low Cut Connie. One of the best live bands I've seen that need the step up.

There's lots of new artists i can mention.

-I'll mention "Jackson C frank" though.

He had a tragic life and never had much recognition when he was alive.

He influenced people like nick drake & paul simon. In fact paul simon shared an apartment with him in london in the 60s.

-Start with the track " milk & honey".

Dubai & Nottingham

Sylvan Esso but the most famous U.K. one is Kate Nash, she even made a film about her lack of success , it’s really sad but she simply wasn’t as pretty as Lilly Allen who just copied her

You cannot leave out Horace Andy, although I have always enjoyed the various singers MA have used. Hope Sandoval, beautiful voice and looks eternally beautiful/miserable.
