I dread it every year really.

I’m happy for all those who enjoy it and get great joy.

But, I have bad memories attached to this time of year that I just can’t get past. Thoughts that make me sad.

I’m anxious about it. I am concerned how I’m going to be able to do everything with a young baby in tow. We only have 5 of us plus baby on Christmas Day but my baby is incredibly clingy and I sometimes struggle to get a shower never mind cook a dinner for everyone and organise a fun day.

If others can't be bothered to lighten the load and help, tell them it's pizza for Christmas dinner this year. No point putting so much unneeded pressure on yourself.

Im seeing a lot of posts with a common theme ‘stress’. In what should be a relaxing time of year to regroup and enjoy family time before the start of a new year. The media put pressure on people to be perfect hosts, cooks, buy expensive presents, overindulge in everything ( before they ironically promote all the diets in January!!). I for one will be giving a huge go and fuck yourself to Xmas and dont spend £100’sor £1000’s on presents for kids or nephews or nieces or grandkids that i dont see one year wnd to the next. Its a retail festival- i might seem a bit bah humbug but I wont be stressed trying to be everything to everyone for a day a year and putting myself in debt that it takes a year to clear before doing it again. If they want something valuable from me - they can have my time which is my most precious gift. I am horrified how many people feel so low at this time of year they feel they cant go on. Partly in my opinion down to expectations created by the media of what Xmas is supposed to look like. I shall be sitting on the sofa with wine watching shite tv and looking at boobs on here - now thats what i call xmas!!

Be an easy Xmas for me, I can't drive anywhere at moment, any gifts be online and xmas dinner be something I can cook without any fuss.

That's the thing about Christmas, it often falls to one person to make it lovely for everyone else. If you are able let the other people know how that you need them to tell you what they will be contributing towards the day in terms of either labour or organising a fun activity. Are some of them children?

I used to work with a woman who'd been "doing" Christmas for an ever expanding family for forty years, she hated every minute of December but never told them.

I never get in the festive spirit until around 22nd when I pick up the turkey. I rely heavily on frozen vegetables Cadbury Roses and internet shopping and have over the years trained my family to have low expectations.

Enjoy Christmas Day itself and to a lesser extent NYE but the days in between are boring as and the lead up for too long. Surprised they've not started selling Easter eggs in supermarkets ffs...

Just over there

I'm looking forward to seeing friends, spending a bit of time with family being daft but it's a tough one this year. Recently separated, finances are, well, non existent, so it's going to be a frugal one!

No young children at home now so we're concentrating on food, drink and games, which will be lovely but doesn't stop the guilt I feel about their Dad not being there or pressies I can't afford.

Roll on the New Year!

Not really as much as I have in the past, I think this is down to people around me that are saying just as much as you. How can I look forward to it and enjoy myself when I have few to do it with?

Merry Christmas to all.

I used to put mine in his baby carrier & crack on with cooking or house work.

Not really doing Christmas here - boys will go to their dad for dinner with elderly grandparents, we’ll walk the dog & have a curry later. We have our anniversary on 28th so we’re going to London for a few nights

Nafferton, nr Driffield.

If one looks to the early, pre Christian concept of the mid-winter festival, one of hope where the year has turned and one can look towards spring. Yes still a long time away but the days are lengthening and one can look forward.

The Christian interpretation is not dissimilar, again a time of redemption.

'Christmas' as it is celebrated in our culture and described by so many of those posting seems almost the opposite to a time of hope. I feel for you.

I’m not a fan of Christmas anyway but this year I’m making the effort for my Mother. It will be the first Christmas with Dad so I want to make it different but enjoyable. I will lay a place at the table with a little nod to my Dad…

This is my third Christmas spending it away from my family, in a foreign country where I genuinely feel (because of subtle and in your face racism) that I don't belong here and of it wasn't for my ambition, hopes and dreams I would've left. So I honest haven't looking forward to a Christmas since 2018 (insert sad face here)

Grumpy fuckers - let the joy of Lego into your lives and spend Christmas day hunting for that vital but small 1x1 that rolled under the sofa and managed to travel to the kitchen!

Get frustrated because you cant read an instruction manual developed for 6 year olds!

Sit back in amazement and say to yourself “I made that” as you hold up your creation and show it to the world.

Who needs mince pies, snowballs or brandy sauce when you have Lego!
