If a pill was on offered to enable you to live to 150 would you take it?

I was watching QI and they said that some scientists believe that the first human to live to 200 years has already been born!

No

It depends if the pill also kept you in tip top health. I wouldn't want to live until 150 but in poor health.

With the world already over populated, this is the last thing we need.

All I see is more wars over resources and refugees.

I think you’ve gone in a bit low there, living to 150 isn’t really a crazy thought. It’s not that uncommon for people to live well into their 90’s now, my nan died aged 92 and she smoked every day from the age of 15, so I’m guessing it won’t be long until it’s normal for people to live for over 100 years.

I’d take it as long as I was fit and healthy the whole time, I wouldn’t want my body to keep deteriorating at the same rate for an extra 50 odd years. You’d become a bit of a celebrity as well once you start hitting 110 years and once you get up to 120 you’d become a super star so life would probably be pretty exciting.

Would I have to tell everyone that I took a magic pill or could I pretend I was super human?

Delightful Bliss

Not a pill no

But sleeping In a rejuvenation cradle every night would do nicely

I could be that fab 99 year old rocking my way through quality not quantity...

Finedon ,

Knowing how I feel being over halfway to 150 there is no chance of me taking such a pill.

Me too. And I would also want my loved ones to have the same pill and grow old but active and healthy together, wouldn’t want to stay alive and watch my loved ones die young

Yes, but only if healthy and still mentally alert.

Sadly without major medical intervention most wouldn't be able to. We are apes, our lifespan should be the same - so around 50yrs - after that our bones and muscles start to deteriorate.

So reaching 150 would mean skeletal and muscle replacement, probably prosthetic, or you'd be bed bound.

Personally I'd go the route of books like Altered Carbon or the Commonwealth Saga. Either full body replacement, so your consciousness is uploaded to either a clone or totally new body. Or regular rejuvenation treatment keeping your body at a set age.

Going that route you're heading into the immortality question.

They have just discovered an old man in remote China who is 201. They saw a crumpled piece of paper in his hand , loosely translated it read:

‘Do not believe everything you see on the internet or read on social media’.

It depends on so many factors. From what I've seen of very old age it is not pretty unless you have very good health and an active mind. That being said I have also seen how strong the will to live is in most people.

Realistically the habitable areas of the planet will become fewer and fewer over the coming years and if we double life expectancy it seems to my unscientific brain that something will have to give at the lower end of the age scale because there simply won't be enough room. A population consisting of mostly older people won't thrive.

Good news for the adult diaper makers though. Japan has an ageing population and adult diapers already out sell child ones.

Until there aren't enough people young enough to make them

65 to 70 is more than enough.

Retirement at 50, 15 good years then Dignitas.

Should be mandatory!

We are way to overpopulated and have enough moaning old gits as it is

I'm open minded but inclined to think not, if I'd be without the people who matter to me plus I'd want just a couple of years maximum of declining health.

Bloody hell it would have to be a pill and a half, im 50 and mostly fucked alread, oh but what a glorious 50 years they have been,

in seriousness, no i wouldnt, we all have a time to die to make room for the net generation, and if you cant do in 60-70 years that you need another 60 odd, then youve been wasting your life

"If a pill was on offered to enable you to live to 150 would you take it?"

Nope. I find the idea of living to 80-odd (another 50-ish years) with my current level of pain and disability to be stomach churning, so adding more on just seems ridiculous. Not for me, ta!
