surrounded by twinkly lights

I was in peri for nearly 4 years, with blood tests confirmed and I only needed generic menopause supplements to abate my symptoms. This year however has seen me slip into full menopause, I'm waiting on blood tests for confirmation and then I can consider HRT or not

For those on HRT did it help your symptoms...

My hair loss, thinning skin, tearfullness and volcano body temp are my worst ones, the rest are manageable

Hi

I am on HRT in a pump gel form. It has helped me with all of my menopause symptoms. It's been a little life saver for me.

Folic acid/methyl folate is good for thinning hair/hair loss.

Was weirdly going to pop this on here today, so I've kind of piggy backed your thread. This I found really interesting about the menopause.

It definitely helped all those things.

There is a big stigma on taking hrt, from the point of view of ‘we shouldn’t need it”, we do, it can help prevent dementia, bone loss and heart disease later in life, and also because there’s so little understanding around women’s health, and hrt in general. The inadequate research showing the breast cancer risks has been widely discredited now, but has left it’s mark.

Hello lovely, I was the same as you this year until I started HRT patches. I feel like a new woman!

Please don't suffer, just get on the meds. I'll drop you a message with my number if you want to chat more about it. Xx

If a man was castrated you wouldn't think twice about giving him testosterone. That quote really did make me see HRT in a different way

Arse end of the universe

Can I ask generally, how has the menopause affected your libido?

I have been without sex for 2.5 years because it’s like someone had turned a switch off inside me. A lot of things also have happened that put me in that mind state but I know the menopause is a huge factor.

I’ve recently been meeting someone who I really really like, totally floats my boat, so I’ve kind of re-engaged again. Does HRT help with the libido aspect or just the shitty symptoms?

I went into surgical menopause nearly 4 years ago and the first few months were hard. Hot flushes are my main symptoms now and tiredness but the hrt does help enormously. Took me a long time to get the type and dosage right though x

It didn't really affect my libido, it was more of a case of I was so down on myself, that I had no self confidence. But I'm back to my happy self, now & having more sex than ever.

I'm told it can affect people in that way, though, so I'd definitely look into it. Good luck xx

I listened to a very interesting piece on 'Womans Hour's a few weeks ago and it seems, allegedly, that most GP's know little about it.

The range of mis-diagnosed conditions, if true, were manifold.

We guys get it easy compared to our ladies.....

It’s so true. Gp training falls woefully short, on something that will affect approximately 50% of the population.

I started hrt about 18 months ago and it was a game changer I'm on the gel tablets and testosterone. I suffered for years and kept being being told it was depression!!! I moved house so had to change my doctors and got a brilliant doctor who listened to me and sent me to a menopause specialist, I've been off the anti depressants for 17 months and all good. However I do get one bad week a month just like you do before a period even though I haven't had one for 15 years!!

I'd recommend hrt to any lady.

Out of the blue came the symptoms of the menopause...sweats, being emotional and a feeling of being out of control. I did not like it, one bit.

It was a really miserable time. Best thing I ever did was to seek HRT treatment and it worked a treat. 3 1/2 yrs later I'm still on it.

Best wishes for finding what works for you. It is such a relief when you do x

As if going through menopause isn't bad enough, to have it misdiagnosed well, that must have been just terrible! Glad that you got a good doctor...eventually x

Ask if your surgery has a GP or HCP who is familiar with Menopause…. It’s a must!

Make sure the HRT youre prescribed fits your symptoms - there are dozens of different ones in patches, tablets, pessaries, gels,

Preserve! It takes a few months for the medication to settle into your rthym

If it doesn’t feel right go back and get it changed!

Says she who regularly discusses Menopause with GPs

Thankfully … menopause seems to have done it’s bit and gone and I have very few symptoms and nothing dramatic

I appreciate that advice, my GP us actually pretty decent, she had said to me before that I shouldn’t ignore it… mainly after I nearly killed myself driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway during an episode of brain fog

Totally shit myself because I’ve never had an accident in my life, I didn’t feel right and narrowly avoided a head on collision with a lorry… the brain fog for me is the worst part… I’m very alert generally but some days I feel like I’m losing my bloody marbles

I'm in early menopause at 35 due to a hysterectomy back in June. I started my HRT a month ago,I'm using patches on a low dose at the moment and I'm not seeing any side effects as of yet. My libido is through the rough at the minute though not that the other half is complaining

I was really worried with the surgery and HRT I would have issues getting back into action with the dryness, less sensitivity and other side effects etc from it but its the complete opposite it's better xx

HRT is the best thing ever

Was perimenopausal for about 10 years before my periods finally stopped. I had hot flushes, low energy and serious brain fog - not helped by thyroid problems that needed sorting first.

The first HRT I tried didn't agree with me, I bled for nearly 2 months. The alternative had me feeling human within 2 or 3 weeks.

No hot flushes, more energy and my brain works properly.

You can take HRT for as long as you and your GP decide you need it.

I tried patches (that didn’t stick, came off in the shower, looked like a badge of honour with no honour and didn’t do what it said on the tin)

I settled with Premique low dose but then I had a Mirena coil fitted to stop severe bleeding. By the time it was removed two years later (my consultant agreed that time limit to ensure it could still be removed) my menopausal symptoms had almost disappeared.

I never suffered hot flushes except when I drank alcohol…. It’s a trigger

My only symptom now is weight gain, change in skin from oestrogen depletion and the rest is just ….. old age starting to kick in !
