What Christmas adverts you have seen recently or in the past do you think were awful?

There is one from Germany which to me came of as emotionally manipulative where a lonely grandad pretends to have died just to get his family to come round and be with him for Christmas.

Was that a couple of years ago? He invited them to his funeral or something? They were always too busy to visit.

He should have told them all to fuck off and had a massive party without them.

That's the one. Apparently, the family left him a message on his answer saying they couldn't make it but would be there next Christmas which never happen. It then shows them going to his house when they found out he "died" only to find he's alive and had the table set up ready.

It just makes the grandad look just as bad as his whole family are.

That was a Norwegian advert celebrating same sex relationships.

Somewhere In The Ether…

The best Christmas advert I remember was from a good few years back.

I sadly can’t remember who did it but it featured a family at dinner and the old gran around who proceeded to reveal that her grandson as I recall, wasn’t in fact his fathers child. Stunned silence followed before she was led out of the room under protest and banged on the piano in protest

I always wondered what happens when he actually dies.

"Pfft whatever. Crazy old grandad Hans wanting attention again."

Yeah it was terrible. Not for the message, just terrible acting, too long a story for an advert and the kiss looked awkward.

Yep. It would pretty much be The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

I agree the celebration of sane sex was well intended, but I thought the advert was not the best. I wondered though if it was a different countries style. Americans have different humour, Australian films tend to be long winded and sparse etc.

The Town by The Cross

You know the one with the kid in who looks at them with sad eyes and then on the step it's been left as if by magic and everyone is hearty and melty and weepy and smiley and the sky is up and the snow is down and everyone squeezes and Father Christmas winks...... Oh that one is amazingly SHIT.....

The John Lewis one a couple of years back where the creepy old bloke gets a telescope so he can look into a young girl's house. Didn't leave me feeling very festive.
