depends if weight is the sole reason for your unhappiness

weight loss wont make work stresses or money worries vanish.

trying to drop weight can be a huge source of stress in itself. maybe try dealing with your mental wellbeing first and then tackle the weight.

Over the years lost weight, put it on and lost again, it didn't fix things, worked out what was wrong n tried fixing that instead.

Humans are very visual creatures. Sometimes we focus on what we can see as the cause of our unhappiness instead of dealing with underlying issues. If you lost weight and still didn't feel better about yourself, there's more going on underneath. Sometimes we need to love and accept all of ourselves to feel true happiness, not just what we see in the mirror.

Being slimmer helped with the pain, which helped me feel less miserable with pain.

I lost around 5 stone and it did make me happier. I had a lot of other things that made me unhappy, but loosing the weight really did help. It gave me something positive to concentrate on, and of course you feel better about yourself - I went from a tight 38 waist down to being slack in a 32 so it does boost your confidence. I suppose whether you are happier is down to the reason for loosing weight, but it's always good for your health no matter what. Good luck, I hope you find your happiness.

I've been bugger and relatively smaller (never what you'd call small though) and been happy and unhappy at both. I'm currently big for me but I see a personal trainer and eat OK (with treats of course) and I'm steadily losing weight... But that's not my aim... I do it because I know it helps how I feel about myself!

Personally I think if you're unhappy bigger you're still likely to be unhappy bigger.. But a someone else has said, if the fact you're overweight is genuinely what's making you unhappy about yourself, it could help.

I find body positive accounts on Insta and tiktok really helpful.. You can see bodies similar to your own and see they have the confidence to feel amazing.. And it really helps me!

Losing weight has made me happier but also more self conscious.

I found I had to be in a good place mentally to start losing weight, whenever I tried before and I wasn't I wouldn't be successful, in fact I'd end up gaining weight because my unhealthy eating habits are intrinsically linked to my mood.

So yes, I feel better overall. I could go on top during sex, I'm able to wear nice lingerie, buy nicer clothes and I feel proud of what I've achieved overall - I'm down several dress sizes and I've lost a very slim person in weight.

I'm also more aware that I have a lot more weight to lose but slow and steady is far better than crash dieting.

Wirral

I lost 7.5st a few years back and I noticed a huge difference in energy levels and fitness.

The weight loss didn't make me happier (my size alone doesn't make me unhappy), but the increased energy and fitness did - I loved how movement felt when I was more fit.

I have regained 2st in the last 18 months, and my increased heft doesn't make me unhappy, but the fact I'm out of breath walking up the hill I live on does, so I've accepted it's time to do something about it again.

The weight is just a physical fact, losing weight may give you a sense of accomplishment and increased confidence but it won't fix any other areas of your life. As others have said, if all that's making you unhappy is your weight then yes, fantastic, job done, but it won't change your job or repair your relationship or fix any other areas of stress in your life.

Doesn't mean it's not worth doing for its own sake though!

Weight loss definitely has made me feel happier. I put on around 2 stone when I was with my ex. Over the last year, while the relationship finally ended, I got fit.

Started eating better and running a few times a week. I can wear clothes I like and feel totally confident in them.

So, in short, yes, it's 100% worth it.

Good luck! X

Gapping Fanny

Losing weight ended my undefeated streak at our works see saw championship battle Royale.

I may be able to buy clothes off the peg now instead of from tent suppliers, but I’m not sure its worth the loss of prestige that came from being a winner!

Birmingham

I tend to function better all round when I’m in shape compared to when I’m not.

It won’t necessarily be the same for everyone.

Good Luck….remember to not go full pelt straight away and end up starving your body of the nutrients it needs….avoid the fad diets and do it gradually….don’t get disheartened by small decreases or increases!!

Diet and exercise go hand in hand so do both and you’ll get to where you want I’m not time!!

I’m rooting for you
