I hope that hasn’t caused you distress. I guess however you have many possible questions some which never may be answered.

It did affect me for quite a while but I have since connected with my biological father and have a beautiful relationship with him.

My paternal biological grandmother was a "bit of a girl." My dad was adopted by his great uncle.

My mam told me that when she was 16 she fell pregnant and put up for adoption the child.

It was around this time of year too, so it hits her hard.

Oh wow that set brains thinking I bet. It was commonplace here in Wales apparently if you couldn’t manage a new baby into a hard pressed family it was handed over the fence to a good neighbour

I was told that my father wasn't my older brothers father, not because I was old enough but because an aunty that my mother had fallen out with was threatening to tell me first.

Glasgowish

My grandad (who died before I was born) had actually left my grandmother for a very wealthy women from Kensington. My grandmother had never accepted this and even after he died she talked about him as if they had never parted. When my grandmother died it was her wishes to go in the same grave as him. Quite sad really.

That the lady I thought was my Aunty was actually my Cousin. My Aunty fell pregnant to a an American soldier based in our area.

She was shipped off with my Nain for 9 months to Nanny Flints house in North Wales and when they arrived home they told everyone the baby was Nains and her and Taid raised her as their own

My 'cousin' only found out when she went to get a copy of her birth certificate to arrange her wedding and was told by the registrar that the details didn't match the details she gave. Nain and Taid are long gone so a lot of stuff went unanswered.

That my sister was only my half sister…

Or rather I was the last to find out.

My sister was told when she was 18. She didn’t talk to me for 2 years, assuming that I, being the older sibling knew.

I found out when my girl friend (now ex-wife) got pregnant. I mentioned to her something I remembered about my sisters pregnancy 3 years earlier.

Oh I was also working away, a 3 hour drive from home at the time.

Anyway, next day on the phone my I ask the g/f if she followed up on the thing, and I remember what she said more or less exactly

Gf:“oh no, it’s fine, it’s only in (my sister)‘s dad’s side, so won’t be an issue”

Me:”what?”

Gf:”yeah your mum said cos you’re only half siblings it’s not something you have to worry about cos it’s only on (sister)’s dad side.”

Me:”what?!?”

Pause

Me:”what do you mean half siblings…”

That was 2008 and I was 25 years old.

My mother had always told me her and dad separated because of my dads infidelity. They didn’t separate till my sister was 3…

One thing has led to another, and for the last 7 years I’ve had nothing to do with my mother. She’s toxic.

This happened to my grandad too.

Me & my dad both did an Ancestry DNA test & found out he has a half brother via his dad. He was a friend of my dad’s younger brother & always claimed my grandad was his dad. We just laughed at him. How wrong we were….

I also found out when I was 20 that my mum had another child who she was forced to have adopted because my mum was very young (14/15 I think ) She’d been picked to play for the Olympic Football team in Munich & my grandad said no as they were due to move abroad (RAF). If he’d said yes it would have been a different story…
