Who else has heard of Nick Drake?

No one in my social circle has.

I 'discovered' him about ten years ago. I'm not a big fan of acoustic folk music but his was on another level. Ethereal but uniquely uplifting.

He was a laconic and shy individual who hated self-promotion and averse to playing live. But his music has had a subtle resurgence.

My dad was a huge fan so I grew up with Bryter Layter and Pink Sky. Northern Sky is one of my favourite songs.

"Mine too! Northern Sky."

If you like Northern Sky do you like John Martyn? I've always thought Couldn't Love You More has a very similar feel or energy to it, for as different as their voices are.

Wow Nick Drake haven't listened to him for a long time. Am I right in saying he did an album or 2 with a band also?

Pink Sky of course a favourite of mine.

Maybe you like the Velvet Underground, bands of this usual style I don't go for, but they are an exception to the rule.

Hope your well peeps xx

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've not heard of John Martyn Maybe I need to look him up.

I love Nick Drake, his mother Molly Drake is worth a listen too, The Unthanks did a beautiful take on some of Molly’s songs.

If you haven’t heard of Nick, he’s worth a listen.

But I've read so much about about him and watched the online documentaries...why does John Martyn not ring a bell? Thanks for the link.

I first heard him on an Island Records compilation CD in the early 90s. Funnily enough it also had a John Martyn track on it. It's quite an eclectic set of tunes - I still listen to it now.

For anyone that likes Nick Drake, i recommend an artist called "Jackson C Frank".

His music is sublime.

(He actually was an influence on both Nick Drake & Paul Simon.)

Start with the track "Milk and Honey".

Yes, I think it's was for a VW commercial, for the US market. Over 10 years ago. And then Brad Pitt did a radio show in the UK and paid homage to him....
