How do you keep fit

How do you keep yourself fit? Do you do any sports and do you do them regularly?

Do you wish to add more to your schedule? And how many times a week do you work out?

Personally I find the GYM insanely boring (sorry Gym junkies) so I just can’t do it. Also my self discipline is CRAP.

Same with running - I can’t run for shit and the only time I actually wanna run is if I’m chased by a bear

So I do lots of yoga (been doing it for years now) with vinyasa and yin classes to focus on core strength and flexibility.

I recently started taking Pole dancing classes because I wanted to add more dynamic to my routines and have fun while working out. And I’m loving it!! I’m proudly getting bruises on my legs so I must be doing something right

So I do yoga classes twice a week (about 60-70 mins long) and one Pole a week

And I try stretch everyday for flexibility

I’d love to add a little something something, like roller skates but we will see

I love swimming but I don’t think I’d have the energy to also add that to what I do already

I’m at the gym 4-5 times a week, for between 60-90 minutes, dependant on the program of the day. I used to find it a real chore when I first began. I knew it had to be done, but struggles with self discipline.

A year or so down the line and I now find that it’s a habit that I enjoy. It’s a part of my daily routine of looking after myself.

Going makes me feel good. I’ve got a great coach who does my programming around what I actually like to do and makes sure not to put exercise I hate in it. I’ve also recently got into basic stretching, and yoga. Overall, I can honestly say that it’s saved my life, I was on a self destructive path, which could have lead over the abyss.

I split my body parts up and train them on separate days, along with cardio usually the stair-master (100 floors) or 30 minutes on the stationary bike

I’ve not been to a gym since before Covid and am going to cancel my membership this week as I’ve been paying since we came out of lockdown. I train in grappling and submission wrestling 2/3x a week and play football.

I’ll pick up running and kettlebells again in the coming weeks to add a bit of variation to it all.

I love that knackered feeling when I walk/crawl out of there. I enjoy the soreness that comes with progression. I’m constantly excited to feel the improvement in myself, and the compliments I get from people that notice the improvements too.

You can incorporate bodyweight exercises into your yoga sessions at home and you dont need any equipment

I only do bodyweight exercises as i cant afford to go to the gym and dont have any weight training equipment, and ill often throw in some yoga before, during and after a workout to limber up and stretch out the muscles too

Various types of push ups, pull ups, bench presses, sit ups and crunches, some glute exercises, theyre mostly what i do, running is a bit harder for me to do as i was a smoker for 10 years before quitting and been super unfit. I ran last year for about half a mile before i felt like i was having a heart attack so my stamina is gonna take a long time to work on

My teacher always includes a lot of Chaturangas (like a low plank positions) which I freaking hate because my upper strength isn’t that good but it is good to use the body to improve upper strength

And that is coming handy for Pole dancing

I found like there was no element of fun involved.

Not that yoga is particularly fun but it still involves position and transition between them so a sort of fun element to make sure that everything is in the correct position while half looking pretty x

I can't stand the gym.

I enjoy the rowing and cycling machines, but the entire atmosphere in every gym I've been in is ruined by self loving posers. It's just really off putting.

I used to swim loads, but stopped for about 10 years as I was just playing in them with the kids and now when I try I look like I'm drowning, I seem to have lost all my technique.

So, now I stick to Yoga and running. I hate running, but it works. Could hardly run at all to begin with, but doing Couch to 5k, I noticed each week I was doing better, and now I'm up to running for 20mins without a break which I'm really proud of.

I will get the 5k, and I will do a WolfRun!

Planks are generally not good for you at all, lots of the articles youll read online and often taught by personal trainers is complete bullshit. Theyll say how its good for your glutes, your lower back and posture but really its the complete opposite, a plank requires hip flextion and extension of the scapula (or shoulder blades), so hip flextion doesnt involve the glutes and the glutes arent under load, same with the scapula. Its also why you dont have the upper body strength to perform the plank cos its not helping you in the areas its supposed to

If you do a plank, do a reverse plank where you lay on your back, arms at 45* with your palms facing out, and lift your hips up along with your back. You should be digging those heels into the ground and pushing your chest out with your arms which makes your scapulas contract which does help improve your posture

I only like walking. That's the only form of exercise I'm happy doing. Short home workouts are manageable too but I have to have the motivation for that.

If you told me I had 10 minutes to get ready for a walk (I sound like a dog), I'd be ready and waiting in 2

During the summer I'd go out most evenings and walk for about 3 hours up and along the top of the coastline.

Being outside and alone is where my happy place is. So not only is it great to keep physically fit it keeps me mentally fit too

I go to the gym and do weights mixed in with lots of squats.

I absolutely detest any kind of gym cardio such as treadmill, rowing and my personal hell which is burpees

So after weights I swim 40 laps and have a routine so I do different strokes & paces (always finish on a timed sprint)

I then sit in the hot tub & sauna (that’s the motivation for actually going)

Running for me. At the moment that's around 75 - 80k/week, 2/3 off road with 2500 meters of ascent and an 8 kilo bag as I'm training for a winter race with a massive list of mandatory kit. By mid December my weekly distance should be around 110k

I would like to have more time to train climbing and ought to make more effort with yoga as it massively helps injury prevention for the running but my discipline is crap.

Id say its the functional muscle youve built but also cos a lot of the gym lads are complete dumbasses and dont know how to lift properly. Its astonishing how much ppl get wrong with their workouts, they copy what someone else does but dont understand the mechanics with each workout and they get it wrong. Even a scary amount of "personal trainers" teaching the wrong shit

I've replaced long distance running with cardio routines, following YouTube channels.

I think there is a YouTube fitness type out there for most of us. It just takes time to find the right ones.

I love walking, even fast walking. But I can’t run at all . That’s my Achilles’ heel and personal hell

I used to be so bad in PE I’d always try to cut corners and the teacher would make me run extra …

Just starting to get back into the gym and trying to get stronger and feel fitter.

At my fittest I was working with a PT and was deadlifting 105kg (when I weighed about 90kg) I loved feeling that strong and it gave me such a sense of accomplishment.

I'll get back there eventually!

From being a couch potato i sort of slipped into Triathlon

Started by sprint race then worked my way up to hopefully a full ironman distance.

Swimming between 2k and 4k 3 times a week

Biking about 160km a week

Running, and being honest with some walking 30km a week

I hate running by the way lol

I literally watch a handful of beginner exercise videos on YouTube, unable to decide which one I want to do, so I don't do any.

I used to visit the leisure centre 6 times a week a few years ago and loved it, 3 classes, 2 gym and 1 swim. Can't afford it now and got mobility problems

There are 2 places not too far from me that I drive to, to do all day hikes. The walks are about 14 mile circular routes, that usually take all day.

I, like you, find the gym boring and prefer outdoor activities in nature, with mountains, lakes, trees etc.

At home I do isolation exercises sometimes and bodyweight exercises. (I very rarely use external weights these days to due to back problems).

Former university boxer and amateur bodybuilder. Since living here, my fitness has definitely taken a dive. Same caloric intake but Covid restrictions and the shock of being in a new country have taken their toll.

The easiest way is to remove your barriers to exercise. When I don’t wanna hit the gym, I’ve got my home weight kit and stationary bike.

During times when I notice myself watching TV or mindlessly on my phone, I plug in my VR headset and ride through the woods from the comfort of my home.

The Town by The Cross

I used to run every other day. Two weeks ago I changed to brisk walking every day because I cover more ground and do more steps and sustain longer distances.

I haven't packed in running - I'm just taking a break.

I do aerobics indoors to my fave you tubes.

I do Qi Gong for suppleness.

I do the garden. ( I won't mention cleaning, painting, paper stripping ) etc...

I'd like some kind of upper body stuff that I could do in front of the t.v.

I swim twice a week usually about 3/4, mile and yoga one a week. I enjoy both, and I find them relaxing and exhausting at the same time.

I also go out on my enduro bike about one every two weeks, that totally takes it out of me. My work in the summer is quite physical so don't do so much then.
