Somewhere In The Ether…

Do you all remember the conveyor belt finale that used to feature on The Generation Game?

What about that old game in which one is shown a table full of various objects and one has to identify which have been subsequently removed?

A quickie question: How do you rate your memory skills good folks?

….and who are all you people?

I remember the game, I doubt I would remember more than 590% of the items if playing the game.

It depends...ask me to repeat the lyrics of a song I haven't heard for years and I'll reel them off with blinking, ask me what I've just gone into a room for and I'll struggle

Actually, I should have subdivided the question in hindsight between Long Term and Short Term memory.

In this regards, I’d rate my LTM as great (useless and obscure facts a speciality of mine!) but my STM is….wanting and I even forget simple drinks orders when out with friends

Scientists have actually studied this phenomena and even termed it as, The Doorway Effect

If I want to remember something my brain will hold on to it easily. Like do you remember when you said to me xyz when we were at abc kind of thing. Comes useful ie. I remember you as a guy who posts about radiators, tiles etc.

Also great numbers memory. Useful for phone numbers in old days, birthdays, postcodes etc. so not that useful really.

And some general knowledge trivia.

I'm useless remembering song lyrics but melodies are just fine, wandering around my head.

We used to play the “objects on a table” memory game in the scouts. It was called “Kim’s Game”. There may have been some connection to Rudyard Kipling – I don’t remember.......
