"My apologies for not posting a thread last week! I’m currently nursing an Achilles injury and a general sense of frustration, hopefully both will pass fairly quickly! " No need to apologise Tea Monkey. I hope your achilles injury soon recovers. New week of running ahead, I ran 6.5 miles this evening with Mr NBVN and I had beat my own ladies course record on a segment of 1 mile/319ft elevation... Happy lady NBVN x

" Speaking from experience DO NOT rush back into training and when you do you should avoid speed work for a while Just coming back from hamstring injury myself and have been sticking to the Peleton for now, will be running Thursday night as we are off to london for a work do for MrsJ and hotel gym is closed!

"Finding it harder to motivate myself to get out in the colder weather and darker evenings, need to get a few in this week. My parkrun 5k was 28 mins this week a good 2 mins down on my previous one so hoping to get at least a minute better this week, we’ll see!" Mornings when it lights up can be good... get that sense of achievement all day too

"Just as an update. For those of you that are techy and go to parkrun From this Saturday you can use a electronic barcode at parkrun. I am giving to test it on my watch but have a back up just in case " Really ? That's fantastic. I was going to order a wristband. I thought they didn't allow it because of safety.. as in they need to be able to access your ICE number in case of emergency?

"Took a group of improving runners out tonight and managed to coax them to 6 miles at sub-10m/m pace. That's a big improvement in just a month. Amazing how quick progress can be when regular runs are done. I'm also enjoying the trail runs I do. It's more of a mixed group but we do plenty of stops to regroup" That's fantastic and yet another argument for me to bite the bullet and join running club. I keep putting it off. I'm sure you have some motivation tricks up your sleeve. When you say regular- how often? I'd love to bring my pace down to regularly under 10 miles/min. Today i averaged 10.14-10.40... need to get my form back!

"Was out for a while with a sarcoma having chemo treatment before first lockdown last year.. started running again in February this year and joined my local running club. Completed c25k as I put on a lot of weight with treatment and lack of exercise. Ran virtual races and then through my club started racing 10km runs & Park runs as well as running 5 times a week and a long 16k run once a week. I have just had surgery to repair damage caused to my leg and knee through my sarcoma last year. 8 weeks on and I'm back running and getting stronger. Sorry for waffling on but I can say running gave me back my purpose my self belief and the will to enjoy life again. I agree running isn't always easy and can be down right frustrating. But never compare yourself to anyone else's achievements set your own goals and never give up. I'm trim again athletic and I love the buzz the feeling of achievement and meeting runners were an awesome breed so go out there and enjoy.." In awe of your perseverance through various challenges! And glad you are back on track again. I hope you get to meet your goals again, whatever they are this time it seems like nothing can stop you!

"Reposting here as I posted on the wrong thread! D’oh! Went for a 6km run around the park earlier - it’s one of those days where it’s so cold outside that when I got home I just sat on the wall for a bit to cool down after the run and you get enveloped in a fog / mist of your own sweat condensing in the air. Lovely pleasant scene for you all to imagine there! Apols for any déjà vu anyone is experiencing ! " I actually quite like to see the vapour condensing in the air! Well done on the run

"Mrs Skyblue is putting me to shame ATM. 10 miler on Sunday and a warm down 5km last night! I've not run for 8 days now as caught some annoying cough and head cold. Hoping to be fit by the weekend as we want to play!!!" Well done to Mrs Sky! Don’t rush getting back after illness, your body needs to recuperate and it takes longer than you think

"My limbs are about to fall off.. I need to layer up better but I did my 5k and marginally better time than last week park run so I'm on the road to recovery whoop whoop. My new beautiful galaxy leggings are absolutely useless and my skin is like ice. This is some sacrifice all this running in cold. Does anyone go to the gym and does treadmill? I never done this before. A bit apprehensive. " Layers, lots of layers! If your comfortable with hats and gloves, wear them! In the cold I wear a t-shirt, long sleeved top, running top and a high vis with leggings and shorts just to try and keep warm. Personally I can’t stand using dreadmills, they’re infernal instruments of boredom

Make sure that you’re not scrimping on your stretches before and after, maybe seeing a sports masseuse would be a good plan as well?

I am naturally warm but this was a test even for me. And yes I need extra layer like shorts and maybe something thermal on top. I had 2 last time.. Not sure on 4 layers though! I would melt I think!

"Up early this morning - not decided if I am wearing leggings and shorts or Tracy bottoms. Probably going with a undershirt and a tshirt over the top this morning With getting two runs in at the gym during the week - 3.2km at jogging pace with a 3km bike ride and a second session of a mixed hill walk, run and jog with bike warm up either side should improve my fitness for todays run. Going to try and get in under 7 mins a km not sure if possible but I will give it a go " Best of luck. The course must be super wet today..

I'm sure they iron out these issues as they go.. usually Timekeepers and barcode scanners are asked to keep results till mid week here just in case there are runners questioning their time or position. "How have I missed this thread! So I started running in Sept 2018 with a community running club essentially doing the couch to 5k. I'm not a natural runner but wanted to get fitter so give it a go. I now volunteer as team leader and love encouraging people and helping them to achieve there goals - It's such a buzz. The furthest I've run is a half and I've recently signed up for the Brighton marathon. " I did Brighton a few years ago, most of it is quite good except for the docks/industrial area

"Weather and work aren’t helping but struggling to get back into a consistent routine. Skipped parkrun as the wind on the sea front was horrendous. Did manage one 8km run this week which is my longest run since my hospital trip. New thermals (including an Iron Man top) due to arrive tomorrow so that will remove one excuse. Happy to trails to all still hitting the streets/treadmills, and good luck to all fighting to get back on the move. " Well done for that 8km. I'm hoping to get there by end of January. Did manage one 8km run this week which is my longest run since my hospital trip. New thermals (including an Iron Man top) due to arrive tomorrow so that will remove one excuse. Happy to trails to all still hitting the streets/treadmills, and good luck to all fighting to get back on the move. Well done for that 8km. I'm hoping to get there by end of January. Slow achiever " Good luck, take it steady, especially in this weather!

"Took a group of improving runners out tonight and managed to coax them to 6 miles at sub-10m/m pace. That's a big improvement in just a month. Amazing how quick progress can be when regular runs are done. I'm also enjoying the trail runs I do. It's more of a mixed group but we do plenty of stops to regroup That's fantastic and yet another argument for me to bite the bullet and join running club. I keep putting it off. I'm sure you have some motivation tricks up your sleeve. When you say regular- how often? I'd love to bring my pace down to regularly under 10 miles/min. Today i averaged 10.14-10.40... need to get my form back! " At least twice a week, three is better. I do a six mile steady run, a speed session and an hour trail running. Each session is different and will improve different elements - cadence, strength, aerobic threshold etc

"Good on you all! I'm getting my fitness back after a bad injury last year, did a sub 2 hour half last week so felt OK about that. Next long run tomorrow. I've a 20 mile road race next month and an ultra in May. " Well done pal! Park run PB for me yesterday, 25;02!

"I've basically given up on road running and switched to the trails. I go out 2 to 3 times a week, sometimes solo, but often with a social group of up to 30 people Most fun are the night trail runs, head torches on, slogging along muddy paths, through the woods and scaring the doggers " sometimes I can't believe I used to prefer treadmill running... Outdoors is so much better isn't it
