Dumbing down on life

I was thinking the other day about how governments now want us to stop flying as much as possible & want us all in electric cars & fitting heat pumps etc to help with climate change.

How long do you think it will be before the carbon footprint we make going on holiday, or travelling to a football match, or pop concert gets frowned upon? Is this fair on our kids not being able to do what we have done in our lives?

I hate conspiracy theories etc, but sometimes I feel every bit of fun is going to be squeezed out of our lives & we'll be made to exist in a much smaller world than we have been used to. Our kids will miss out on so much.

Thoughts & opinions all welcome. Think about what it could mean for you & are we being slowly drip fed & manipulated?

I fear for the next generations to come, I’m worried that society will evolve into survival of the fittest. Think the great 2020 shit paper shortage, and the ensuing mayhem. Imagine that with all other essentials, and the material things.

This is inevitable. We will all have to make big changes in time, both changing how we do some things as well as greatly reducing certain activities if not ceasing altogether.

I expect the educated of the next generation would find that preferable over the alternative.

Or the top 1% jet round to climate change events.. whilst telling us plebs.. that having gas heating, flying on holiday etc is contributing to world decline therefore we (not them cause they’re special) need to sacrifice & give up our essentials & occasional frivolities..

Just to be clear on this. I'm no covid or climate denier, I've had my jabs & do what recycling I can, walk when I can instead of the car & try to do the right thing. I can't afford to fly away on foreign holidays or buy an electric car.

I've sat & watched everything this last 2 years & kept an open mind weighing up everything thrown at us & what they show us, & what they don't. I will maintain that position & stay open minded. But something stinks.

Maybe we are the first humans to have our wings clipped after decades of plenty, greed & extravagance & we don't like it one iota & rail against it.

You can see how people get weary of all the depressing armageddon stories & think to hell with it & carry on like normal. You don't know what to believe & should avoid the extremes of both sides of the arguments.

Spot on with this bit.

It's been all about innovation, industrialist, engineering etc. Take take take, entitlement, self, more, bla bla bla.

Funny thing is, the most content people on the whole are those who still live in tribes and live life the "natural" way, with community, family and plant life.

I don’t deny climate change… however.. industrialisation had brought us to this current world…

However we can’t ignore the world cycles before this.. ice age, extinction of dinosaurs, mount Vesuvius erupting.. all these things happened before we were in existence..pre industrial world.

We have exacerbated it.. but … is there also not a natural life/world cycle to the universe?

Volcanoes erupting is just normal planetary behaviour - plate tectonics.

Our best understanding of the reason for the mass extinction of the dinosaurs is a meteor impact - a cosmic event unrelated to activity on Earth. Yes, the resulting change to the planet brought about by the impact was considerable but not comparable with the changes in global temperature that have happened in the past 150-200yrs.

The simple fact remains that average global temperatures have changed (increased) more rapidly in a far shorter time period than any time that we can ascertain. The changes that brought about the mass extinction of dinosaurs happened over a far longer period (apart from those directly in the impact zone, obviously).

Yes, global temperatures have previously been cold enough for "ice ages" but again, the heating that has occurred after the ice ages is far more rapid in the post industrial era than any previous event.

The only explanation for the speed and severity of changes being experienced across the global is the impact of human activity.

Saving the planet is a nice idea, but the planet is fine, look at places like Chernobyl which are in many ways idyllic nature reserves now. What’s not fine is our ability to live on it in the way we currently do. The earth has been hotter, it’s been cooler, Humans are a blip in the history of the earth, we’ll fuck off like the dinosaurs eventually and the planet will carry on fine thanks, reclaiming all the cities and oceans. If climate deniers had it framed as ‘save the humans’ they might pay more attention, because that’s what’s actually at stake

its got nothing to do with climate change, its about controling the plebs and more taxes, look at the recent cop thing , nothing was really decided, the worst poluting countries dont want to change, never mind that the uk is one of the least poluting countries there is, but insulate britain etc make headlines, and it suits our leaders to play on this, the restrictions on public cars in london for instance have made little or no differance, and in some areas unbelivably made it worse, but its raised billions of pounds, and we just sit back and take it, unless things are dont on a global scale then nothing will work, never mind the climate changes on a cycle if we are here or not, it always has.

I do live in a clean a way as i can, dont have a car, recicle etc, i might add, as i dont see a reason to not, but it makes no difference when boris flys to cop for the talks, and undoes everything i and thousands have done for good.

As always one rule for us, and one rule for them, and its not just boris, look at India, where i had the misfortune to work for a bit, talk about smog, yet they still build coal power stations etc

The thing is what you have described has only been the way of life for humans for a very short period of time. Maybe it's time to get back to something more low key because the world and people don't really seem to be too happy at the moment.

Take the long view, in 200, 500,1000 years energy and travel will be very different , science builds on science what you’re seeing now is the telegrams and stream trains compared to what’s coming.

And governments are in for 4 years only, and not smart enough or capable of implementing the conspiracy theories on YouTube , they’re more focused on their next consulting role when we vote them out.

ignore the government and live your life. After all they are. Fact the planet has been warming up since the ice age. Look at the biger picture. It all a money taxing making scam. Pay to take a car into a city. But you can drive that car around with no restrictions elsewhere. Being pushed into expensive electric cars that run on very highly poluting chemicals that are being extracted from the planet. And dont have a real recycling value. And charged by electric that uses fuel to create....

It’s happening but it takes time. Look how long it’s taking to roll out fibre across all of the U.K. 35 years so far and still a long way to go , now imagine the task of sub Saharan Africa which has practically no grid electric and runs on DC generators and diesel, with some pockets of hybrid /solar. Same for most emerging markets in Africa, Asia and LATAM. It’s going to take a long time and we need a few more developments from people like mr Musk to help us

What’s with this trope that CCh is all about tax and controlling the plebs.

They already have many mechanisms to do this - why have a multi decade ‘conspiracy’? Just look at how much ‘control’ can be exercise in v short period of time with covid/lockdown.

Is it really that much more comforting to out head in sand and complain than to look at ways to change and embrace the opportunities?

Agreed, recent generations have become extremely ungrateful, as much as im a small part of consumerism im still very restrained, but i absolutely hate what consumerism has done to the ppl of this planet

The world needs a reset, we need to return to more traditional ways of life and become closer communities again. Sure some technologies would be useful to keep but theres so much we really dont need, and we all need to understand

God i could talk about these things for days but i have to hold back on this one
