At the risk of sounding like Essex Tom,butter nut squash should come with a health warning!

Nearly took a finger off trying to chop one just now.

Grr!

Be careful out there.

Mmhh roasted butternut squash with chilli & fresh coriander is so lush.

Sharp knives are always safer to cut with.

Swede, turnip and other rock solid rooters. Try cutting it in a straight line, without sending the blade sideways.

Take it to the workshop, as they have better tools.

No. Better still, take it to the zoo and donate it as animal feed.

Turnip. Just how on earth are you meant to safely chop turnip. Maybe a chainsaw would help.

Perhaps try boiling it first for a while then the skin may be softer to cut But I do agree the skin is like leather to cut I should have tried boiling them first.

Sideways on the chopping board. Cut off the neck. Stand it up and cut through the middle. If too tough, get the knife stuck, lift it and smash it onto the chopping board. Keep hand well away or flat on top of knife.
