Are there some sayings, phrases that you don't quite understand the meaning of? Also, there are some sayings that have slight or very different meanings in different parts of the country/world for that matter.

One I've been trying to figure out is when a woman says to a fella "I'd eat/swallow you for breakfast/alive". Here's a little context.. I was at work, with a colleague, we often enjoy flirty banter with each other. She couldn't find a light switch in a cupboard, I stepped in and went to close the door as the switch was behind said door, and while doing so, said in jest "don't worry, I'm not going to lock you in". Her very fast response was, "it's you that wants to worry, I'd eat you alive". (or something very similar). Then not even two weeks later, speaking with another colleague about relationships, mentioned how my partner must be very trusting with me working with mostly women, then added to it "especially half of them here, they would eat you for breakfast".

Now both instances were all light hearted conversations, nothing in it. I don't think. But what does this phrase actually mean? I don't want to use good old google.

Are there any phrases or expressions you don't get? If so, post on here and hopefully someone will be able to enlighten you.

I think it's usually used to refer to older or very sexually confident women and younger or quite shy men. The implication being that the man couldn't handle the woman sexually.

I'd be slightly insulted if someone implied that my partner must trust me just because I was working with the opposite sex. What makes people say these ridiculous things?

I can't think of a saying that I don't really understand but I sometimes catch myself saying "what does that even mean?" when someone trots out a well worn phrase.

The 2nd colleauge is fairly young, and think she was probably projecting her own insecurities. Told me other half, she found it quite funny.

I'm sure I'll think of others before the day is out

But I can tell you it’s far from the truth normally in my experience the one saying it is blowing smoke and is normally the first to tap out

You know the oooo I ruin you two pumps and a slap

Yes, that generally is the case I find. Was just a good laugh and giggle though.

Exactly. Although I quite like Americans in general they really have butchered the English language

Well I certainly am a shy person, so I'll just chalk it down to that

Yes, it's so important to be able to communicate openly. Although do have our moments.

Oh, and in terms of phrases I recently found out that saying "I'll swing for you" doesn't mean you're just going to punch someone
