Ever had a piece of music make you cry?

I've cried to music but rarely had something move me to tears, if that makes sense. i.e. Crying while listening to music after the death of a loved one/horrible break up...

But only once, that I can recall, had something touch me that I cried. It was actually during a DJ/live performance and I was sober too. But it was such an emotional moment, I'll never forget it. The setting was beautiful, I was with the one I loved (at the time) and some lovely people, and the whole thing just overwhelmed me to the point of tears of joy.

Seeing Black Stone Cherry a few years ago, they played "the rambler" and I didn't even feel like I was crying as such yet my eyes were leaking.

Disturbed - sound of silence. That one gets me.

Kate Nash - nicest thing. Used to get me because that's how I felt about someone. Now it gets me because I'm angry and frustrated at myself for feeling that way and being such a fucking dumbass in the first place.

Panatonix - Hallelujah. It's just beautiful

Sugarland - Stay. Again, finding the strength when I found out my ex hadn't been honest with me about his home life, and wasn't separated at all.

Ocean by John Butler Trio a few years ago at Rock City. It just hit me in a wave of emotion.

Bruce Springsteen's monologue at the beginning of The River on the Live:1975-1985 album often gets me too as it reminds me of my relationship with my father.

"The Schindler's List violin theme music."

Only seen that film once when it first came out. I remember walking out of the cinema in Central London into a busy shopping centre and being struck by the absolute grim silence from the crowd coming out around me set against the hustle and bustle of London on a Saturday afternoon. It was a surreal experience and in my mind I picture us cinema goers in black and white slowly dispersing into the coloured noisy crowd, funny how memories get twisted and reshaped to fit a mental narrative. I was 15 and that music is haunting to this day.

There are two other pieces of music that I find very moving, Shostakovitch Piano Concerto 2 2nd moment and the 1st movement of Mozarts Concerto for Flute and Harp. Sadly the part of this latter that I find most heart stoppingly pure is part of a Cadenza that is rarely performed but happened to be on the cassette (!) recording I learnt to love

There’s several songs which get me.

Mine and my dads song has always been Stevie wonder - isn’t she lovely. He had a devastating stroke in 2017 and hasn’t been the same since. He’s in a nursing home so it holds a special place in my heart, he ran pubs before he had his stroke and I played it on the jukebox and we both wept.

If you like Schindlers List this made me cry when I first saw it. A daughter watches her Mother, who suffers from a painful neuromuscular condition, that derailed her career, play in an orchestra on her 18th Birthday. I have yet to watch it all with a dry eye.

I've never been emotional (to the point I think I'm weird), but since I split with my ex I can't listen to "Said it all" by Take That. It was on in the car at the end of our relationship and it's the futility of knowing we had nothing left to say and that it was inevitable that I was going to loose my family unit (I wasnt particularly bothered about losing my ex herself). Mental. The only other song I have ever cried at was Aaron Neville singing "Ave Maria" which comes on at the credits to the film "Alive", which was about a plane crash into a mountain, where they were all from an American football team, and some of the survivors ended up having to eat the their dead friends and loved ones to survive, so it's very emotional!!

Ludivico Einaurdi I Giorni. One of my favourite pieces of music, my son sent me a video of him playing it, he lives in Edinburgh and I was missing him like crazy at the time

Dakota Stereophonics, went to see them live and they played it right at the end. Always reminds me of my son, he used to play it on loop. So to be stood there with him was very emotional.

I was listening to the Beatles White Album once when Blackbird came on...and I had to stop myself bursting into tears (was in public) Strange, as I knew the song really well but for some reason it's beauty just hit me anew at that moment

Another one is 'Scorn Not His Simplicity' by Luke Kelly. Phil Coulter wrote it about his Down Syndrome son. Heartbreaking.

Dakota Stereophonics, went to see them live and they played it right at the end. Always reminds me of my son, he used to play it on loop. So to be stood there with him was very emotional.

Supermarket flowers by Ed Sheran, it was played at my nans funeral and a lot of the song sums up my Nan, that was over 2 years ago and to this day it still brings a tear to my eye. I don't like Ed Sheran's music, really not my cup of tea but this song really touched a nerve.

Then she turned up at a school concert doing Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and it knocked me for six it was honestly so beautiful. I've never been so floored. Half the audience were blubbing uncontrollably as well.

She sang a song called ‘Dignity’ that she had produced and written. It was played on her birthday a few months after her murder.

Yes. On a ski holiday. The band were playing snow patrol chasing cars.
