"Unfortunately I don't have one. Have a stove type fire in the front room and one in the other room that has a back boiler that does the radiators. If they aren't kept running there is no heat. It's a bit rubbish really. " Its difficult especially when they want us to stop burning coal, we had ours taken out and a gas boiler inserted, exchanged the open fire for a log burner, which is much more efficient

Calor gas must work out to be more expensive surely? ...." Calor gas might be more expensive but at least I am not paying some rip off merchants a standing charge for gas every day of the year when I only heat the house from Novenber until early April. When they started that lark I signed out. After a while they took the meter out and eventually disconnected me at the pipe in the street. Their loss through being greedy. The bigger the gas cylinder, the better the price and from time to time I get given or purchase cheaply some part used tanks. there are more around than you might think.

I have 2 open fires in my latest place , have a good pile of wood, not tested yet but from experience no way near as good as log burners as the heat goes straight up and out
