Mum rant

Half way through our 10 day holiday and I need a rant space lol

Just to get it out of the way.... Yes I love her, yes she's my mum. Yes I do cherish time together with her but sometimes she is annoying!

So here goes!

She never makes a decision, ever. Everytime I ask what she wants to do I get 'I'm easy' or 'not bothered' and it's annoying. Even when it came to booking this holiday she left it all to me (mainly because she felt it was her fault for the cruise being cancelled so I kind of get that)

Good thing about this is it has made me realises how annoying I must be when I do it to other people. I will learn to be more decisive.

There will be more.....

She doesn't flush the loo after a wee and it's gross.

Fair enough in your own house when you're on your own but not in a shared bathroom!

Haha my dad flushes half way through a stand up wee to mask the noise and I’m left with a diluted wee bowl because he’s fired off too early (Vomit)

My mum is 82 and not only does she chew gum she blows bubbles with it. The other day I caught her pulling it out her mouth and wrapping it round her finger. She also keeps her mobile down her bra so even if she gets a text in M&S she will dig deep down to get it.

aw bless ya!

as somebody who is a terrible people pleaser I am the worst at saying "it's up to you" when it comes to choosing anything.

My mothers annoying thing was always wanting to go to Bingo, when I hated it.

I expect my kids will say my annoying thing is insisting on chatting with them during the morning sometimes when they are up late the night before playing on line games... they sleep late when they can so if I want them I have to wake them up!

Join the club, mine's got mixed dementia, and athrites in both knees leaving her virtually wheelchair bound, and half the time thinks that I am her cousin who has been dead for years. I don't mind giving her old lobby a wash down, but getting a handful of shit while I'm at can be a bit testing. Arguing when I give her medication that nurses have done when nurses haven't been near here. Then telling me she's starving, and so I get her something, and when I put it down in front of her, she tells me that she has eaten all day. That's not to mention the imaginary people that she has a damn good row with, but I wouldn't let a hair on her head come to harm, and haven't got a problem with my wings clipped for a bit.

I suggested something to my mum for her lunch the other day. She agreed and literally with her next breath said

"I don't know what I'm going to have for lunch"

I suggested the same thing again and she replied

"On I can't eat that!"

My mum was the same after her mum and dad died. She just didn't want to deal with anything and got hung up on the smallest details. I guess it's part of the grieving process but it's hard when it means you have to organise everything and can't grieve yourself x

Oh vent away OP..

I had to live with my folks for 6months whilst undergoing renovations..

My Mum at one point insisted that she should know my whereabouts & whom I was visiting when I went away on a (fab) child free weekend. Actually said she needed to know because if something happened to me & a policeman turned up at the door she would have to say she didn’t know where I had been going or who I was meeting and that would be embarrassing!

I had to politely point out that non of my 44 year old friends texted their parents every time they went out/away to let them know the full details and that most policeman would not be shocked that 60 something parents did not know the every move of their adult children!

Have your rant, rant every day, then give her a cuddle, hold her hand and tell her how much you love her.

I miss my chats with my mum in the garden on summer evenings.

I say chats, but most of the time we sat, drinking tea, listening to the blackbird on the chimney singing his little heart out.

Oh dear I don't think you can. Maybe just scream "STOP CALLING ME THAT"

Oh lord! I feel your pain. Yesterday we told my mum that dad was going out today. She must have asked when he was going four times in the five minutes after we told her. It takes immense patience to just answer normally and to not say "remember".

My girls and I moved back with my mam about a year ago and it's mainly great. I get childcare, she gets company and the kids are close to their friends and at an age where they can go out to play.

However... I do need to bite my tongue a bit sometimes. I'm a wanderer, I'll pop to the shop then remember I need to do xy and z so before I know it I've been out all day. My mother is frantic at this point even though I'm nearly 40. She's got worse with age I think, I felt more independent when I lived here as a teenager.

She's also convinced one of those people off the internet is going to murder me

Farfarfar away

Rant away mum’s are sooo annoying but it doesn’t stop us loving them.

Mines 87 and still wants to be in control of everything but she physically can’t. I know it’s fear of getting old and not being capable but sometimes I wish she’d just accept the help rather than it being a constant battle. She’s always thinks she’s right, constantly corrects me even when she’s wrong to the point I don’t want to engage in conversation with her.

We were going to buy a place together, so we could have equal space but she flatly refused anything we looked at. So I moved in with her. I had to sell/give away all my furniture/house possessions and get a storage unit for the few items I really wanted to keep because she wouldn’t make space for anything of mine.

I now spend most of my time in my bedroom which is the only place I have anything of mine. I feel like I’ve reverted back to that sulky teenager full of resentment.

I used to do a lot of cooking. Spend hours preparing delicious home made food. She’d eat it once and then when I’d ask if she’d like it again say no. It’s soul destroying. Now we just get prepared food from M&S or Waitrose, at least I know she’ll eat that.

I could go on and on about everything that winds me up about her, but she’s my mum and I do love her.
