Because all countries with a valid association can enter, it’s about taking part not winning, like like the FA cup involves EVERY league club in the country no matter how crap. It’s laudable.

West Wales and Cardiff

The point?!

The cheer that went up in the National Stadium at the Wales v Romania game in 1993 when news filtered through they were one up against England.

Justified their existence forever more.

That’s the point .

The commentary team saying "it's a vintage year for England" and comparing Kane's two hat tricks to Dixie Dean. Come off it! Albania and San Marino - a striker like Kane SHOULD be scoring for fun in such games.

I feel sorry for the San Marino team, who are predominantly part timers with day jobs.

Let's see England play against teams in the same "league" as them rankings wise and see how many hat tricks and 10-0 score lines emerge!

Agreed, I get you can only play what's in front of you but the only part I agree with re "vintage year" is the Euro 2020 final but only hope we can go one better next year

On another note, was anyone else hoping Harry Maguire would do the exact same celebration as he did against Albania?

And now dissecting the bloody goals, telling us what excellent games craft went into them. Goodness me! The San Marino back four finished work at 5pm, ate their butties on the bus on the way to the ground and will take their own kit home to wash after. There's nothing to dissect.

Also no need for the pundits to insult San Marino as they are now

Yes and they didn't win 10-0 or score hat tricks for fun!

I’m sure even Dixie Dean played again at some absolute dross before and failed to bag hattricks. Lots of teams play San Marino and equally crap teams, very few teams hit double figures

Dixie Dean scored hat tricks for fun (often with his head). He was never booked or sent off in his career either. He scored 391 goals in 448 career club appearances and 16 goals in 18 England appearances (in the days when international games were few and far between). Absolute legend

No and the score line tonight was embarrassing for San Marino, but also the highest ever score line by an England team.

In the modern game there are very few ‘easy’ teams. It’s not necessary to celebrate a huge drubbing of lesser opponents but it’s also worthy of note.

Yearning for halcyon players viewed through rose tinted hindsight is a little insulting to modern players with a much higher standard of daily opposition.

Harry Kane has equalled Gary Linekars England goals record tonight with a far superior goals to games ratio

My comments were aimed at the hyperbole coming from the commentators and the pundits. Anyone who couldn't see the accompanying pictures would have been forgiven for thinking a vintage game of football was being played. It was a crucifixion of part timers by a highly drilled professional team. Obviously the England team can only play the team in front of them, and they did exactly that.

I cringed at that. On the subject of San Marino, I expect it's a great thrill to play against most world teams and players. Shame they had to hear our "fans" though.

Ha ha ha ha we didn’t sing that to the San Marino fans at all. Clearly someone who didn’t go and watched it on tv

It was to the england fans that were on the hill. It was totally a piss take

We sung is that all you bring away, and you got not caps and another song which I won’t repeat due to the content but it suggested that they were tramps watching for free.

Some of those on the hill were mates that couldn’t get tickets due to the ground being at a reduced capacity due to covid. Someone were tight so and so’s as well

Tbh we spent a lot of money in San Marino during the day and most of the fans were well behaved

England fans can behave

How can anyone who says they like football NOT like the spectacle of part-timers up against the worlds best, the postman or cabbie pitting their wits against the elite?

It’s what makes the third round of the FA Cup so special, and games like this.

The result is a foregone conclusion but for dreams and fairytales these games are fantastic.

And fair play to the likes of Mike who follow the team home and away, good work fella!

Oh and Merry Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho!

I support a League Two team. We ARE the team at the bottom (ish) of the pile and I have, on many occasions, enjoyed watching my team defeat League One and Prem opposition, actually

Only bad one I recall is when we drew Man U at home. We lost 6-0. I did not enjoy that spectacle

No a foot all fan at all, but the only matches that catch my attention are the David and Goliath clashes.

San Marino scoring in the first minute of a game against England is one of the only matches I can remember.

Haha it still must be cool supporting a lower league team. I bet it's a lot more inclusive than it would be supporting a Prem team or even some Championship teams.

I wouldn't know because I've never followed a Prem team and the last time TRFC were anywhere other than the arse end of the EFL, it was called Division One. Ahhhhhhhh, those were the days *
