As you’ve progressed through life have you found yourself to be more cynical/suspicious or less trusting?

On here? Absolutely.

In life in general? No. I hit peak cynicism in my late 20s and I've been gradually softening since.

La la land

Not sure if I'm more cynical. Perhaps more aware of signs and read people better so deal more in facts rather than the whole world is coming to get me.

No, it’s needed as a form of self preservation.

If your cynicism turns out to be “wrong” do you think ah bugger?

Hefty Hideaway

I have an inherent naivety that makes me take people at face value until proven wrong.

When I am proven wrong though I’m quite adept at cutting my losses.

My experience thus far should have made me a cynical old boot and to be honest for a while there it did but the side of me that sees sunshine and rainbows soon popped back up.

I don’t think it’s a bad quality.

Yes. In life and on here.

I’ve learnt that if there’s one thing that you can rely on the vast majority of people to be, it’s selfish and self serving.

I’ve had that proven to me time and again, it would be a special kind of person to not learn those lessons

I consider myself more realistic than cynical. Especially on fab. I've very little expectations though. Take it all with a pinch of salt and it's a far more enjoyable experience.

Good god yes. Very cynical and there is only one person I fully trust in life.

It's a shame but people in life make you that way.

Yes. I think if you live long enough you realise how many people there are on the world who can't differentiate between fantasy and reality.

A thread I can relate to....

My answer for the OP is absolutely yes many a life experiences have made me cynical and at times paranoid for good reason be it the industry I have worked in the past 10 years or personal stuff..

That being said I try not to be cynical or overtly negative when I communicate with others unless there is a deep conversation going or a specific topic but even then for the most part I try to remain civil to an extent..

That being said I listen to my gut instinct a lot if it's warning me something is off or some one is likely to fuck me over I prepare myself to counter it that way it goes back in their face instead off mine..

they say the Amygdala part off the brain or as they call it Lizard brain warns you off the danger or if red flags appear to listen to it if something is off because more then likely there is something off about some one...

it's helped me many times it's better for me personally to have to a degree paranoid mindset then an overtly trusting one....

Absolutely.

When you're witnessing liars and cheats on a daily basis it's hard not to.

When you've learned an awful lot of folks will say anything to cure their blue balls, it's hard not to.

Yeah, especially at work. I used to think the work I was given would always benefit me and would be useful for my progression.

Now I'm very cynical about work I'm assigned and quick to point out whether or not it benefits me long term.

No, not really. More realistic, definitely. Cynical of one person because of their actions, of course. Of a whole group? No. I learn things. Like some people are callous. People lie. Even on here. You'll never get your favourite book back so don't let someone borrow it. Don't lend people money.

But like I'm not the hot headed twunt I was a few years ago, I like to think that everyone has the capacity for growth, for being honest and authentic and...

I'm eternally optimistic that people aren't inherently dickheads and that'll be the sword I die by.
