I did as a kid. We don't have a dining table right now as we live in a flat it wouldn't work in but maybe when we move. When I have dinner at my other partner's place we have dinner at the table as his place is open plan so he has a table and chairs.

We did. Ate breakfast alone. Dinner mid day and tea in the evening.

Only ever shifted dinner to late when I tried to be middle class.

Best meal ever though was a late supper.

We did on Sundays when I was a child. Now I have my own family we sit around the table every night, it's one of the only times we are all together. It's so important to me, I hope my children do the same

Christmas dinner and roast dinners yeah

But it was only me and my mum and half the time we’d eat at different times so I’d either eat at my computer, in front of tv or in my room

Now it’s just me at home so I’ll eat in front of tv, same if I’m visiting my mum

But at my dad’s it’s always at the table

Yeah, always meals at the table when I was a kid. Not allowed down from the table until the plate was empty and you had been excused.

Now it’s just me but all meals are at the table. I don’t have a telly so no meals in front of that but I do sometimes have a paper at the table when I’m eating dinner.

Yea we always sat down together when dad got home from work.

Mix or TV and table when I moved out but I do enjoy time around a table at dinner to catchup with no phones, TV or other distractions.

Phones at a table in the house or out for a meal with family/friends is a big no for me

Never lol coz it was just me and mum mostly. Only time was Christmas really. I did sometimes sit at the table at my grandparents house but again rarely because I wasn’t often there. If and when I have a family it’s something I’d like to happen though. Think it’s an old fashioned value which we’ve lost over time.

When the kids come home for a visit, we always sit at the table and have our "what news do you bring to the table" time! (When they were younger, it was a great way or them to open up and talk about their day! (Got so many school/best friend/lessons/personal problems sorted out that way!!) I miss it happening daily.

Husband and i only sit for evening meal now, if were eating together, which is a lovely bonus when it happens!

We did when the family was together when i was little, after family broke up when i got a little older it stopped, then after i hit my teens it was back to being at the table again until my mum had cancer then it was back to being in the living room/bedroom.

Tbh when it gets to my own place, have a dinner table and in a relationship again, itll be at the table, unless its something like finger food (burgers, nachos, torillas/burritos) which we would do on the sofa with something on netflix

It’s associated with lower levels of substance use in teenagers

Presumably because communication is key and that’s one time in the day you can have the whole family together

Always sat down at the table, my father was a ships captain, and a lovely man, but table manners and dining protocol were of the untmost importance to him. You didn't sit down to the table in our house either with a cap on, or without a shirt on. Old habits die hard, and I've been tarred with the same brush.

Couldn't agree with you more, I entertained eleven of us last night for a birthday celebration, whose ages ranged from ten year old to seventy five years old. Adults at one table, kids around another. It was quality time on the highest level.

We always ate at the table growing up, even if we weren't all together. It was never a consideration to eat anywhere else. Breakfast and lunch were at the kitchen table, dinner and special occasions were in the dining room.

My kids have always eaten at the table until very recently. I still do (unless K has made breakfast in bed).

Nope. We rarely ate together.

Me and my sister ate at a fold up table when we were children. Once I was old enough to cook for myself that's what was expected of me, I had to ask "please may I have the tomato soup" for example, but was told to choose wisely what I cooked as that would be it for the evening and I wasn't allowed anything else.

Only meal we all ate together at a table was Xmas day which is really shit. We had a spare reception room downstairs where we had the big table and ate Xmas dinner and it could have been so homely. Instead the room was used as a laundry dumping ground. Dirty clothes in colour pile on the floor, when they were clean you collected them off the table. Sometimes you'd wait weeks for them to get washed. I'd sneak my school uniform in the wash once the mother was in bed so I had clothes coz I was expected to wear the same shirt for a whole week.

Yes and for a long time as a kid it was something I hated as both parents were the table manners police. Rather than enjoying eating together it was more of an ordeal, constant bollockings for holding my fork wrong or cutting something the wrong way or not having the meat closest to me on my plate etc.

As an adult I like that I have good table manners because a lot of people eat like absolute pigs, but I dreaded Sunday dinners as a kid.
