"Seriously, don’t take advice off here if you think it’s genuinely a slipped disc, so as little as possible and do not try to make things better by stretching. Take paracetamol, wait two hours take ibuprofen, wait two hours and repeat if awake, and just lay there. " Way ahead of you with the painkillers, I've been playing that game since Monday LvM

"Ok so the vulnerability thing is a turn on. Not sure why but I’ll unpack that thought another time. You’re probably best off doing nothing except rest and painkillers. Hope it gets better soon! "Lot of theories are to not stretch at the minute. However, if you want to, there’s a couple for L5 region. ‘Lower back’ Cobra stretch, so lie face down, then push your self up, pivoting at the hips, arms eventually straight. Stop if it’s ‘sharp’ painful. And most beginner yoga routines on YouTube. Then for side movement, stand in a doorway/wall, put your arm at 90’ then lean against the frame to your side, with arm. Then try to push your hip towards the wall/frame to manipulate the vertebrae. I personally like traction. So hanging by ankles from a winch or just active hanging on a pull-up bar. " Thanks, I'll take a look at see if anything gels LvM

"If you think you have a slipped disc, please don't do any stretches, excercises or have any massages until its looked at by a doctor and you're advised on what to do to help it. You could really cause yourself some damage. I hope you get it looked at quickly! If you can't see your GP, try a walk in clinic. " Noted nurse Lacey, bed rest it is then LvM

Just no actual "back excercises" until advised to medically but try to move around the house a bit or you might seize up.

"You actually don’t want to stretch a slipped disc without very well informed info from someone that knows about you injury. You could make it worse. The best rehab I’ve found for a slipped disc (I’ve had 2) is just walking for now. Long, gentle walks. Hoping a speedy recovery " Yup, after previous advice all stretching has stopped now Walking about does seem to help a bit. Thanks LvM

"A and E. Doubt you'll get a diagnosis though, took me 9 months to get an MRI and then another 3 months to see the consultant for results - and that was before 10 years of Torys giving all the NHS budget to their mates. However, I can personally verify that after a couple of diazepam tablets and 60mg of codeine it really does feel better I hope it eases for you. "Doctors 1st... Then acupuncture? Nope. Nope, nope, nope LvM" Acupuncture did absolutely nothing for me. Keeping moving helped, days I was on shift I would wake up at 2am, shove a suppository up my ass, alarm at 4.30 and 2 ibuprofen, 2 more once I got to work at 6 then another 2 at 8. By 9 I would start to feel OK and get through the day till the 40mins sat on my motorbike home (driving was impossible). Not recommending the ibuprofen overdose, the suppositories were supposed to replace them due to the possible stomach damage but when you're desperate you'll do anything. Days off I didn't move because it hurt but ended up in more pain than the days work meant I had to. Used to pull onto the drive, turn the bike off and still be stuck half on, half off it when the alarm automatically set 30 seconds later I really hope you get help. Mr

I couldn't sit for more than a couple of seconds. Going to the loo was excruciating. I ate my meals semi reclined on my right side. It was horrific, yes. I'm glad you have some form of relief. Warning - the NHS doesn't take these things very seriously and you'll be waiting a very long time for anything to be investigated/done. Keep an eye out for cauda equine syndrome (search engine it), which is an immediate 999/A&E event.

Acupuncture works for some & not for others. I'm quite lucky as I go to a guy who has 30/40 yrs experience. People go to him from all over the country. He's good! But not all are..... I had probs with my lumbar region but he got me fixed. He's been 100% correct with diagnosing medical problems. You just have to try things till yer find the one thing that suits you! We are all different.

"So I'm laid in bed right now with what Google thinks could be either a Martian sand worm burrowing down my spinal column, or I have a slipped disc. (Proper diagnosis pending trip to A&E in the morning) Does anyone have experience with any stretches that could help? I'm struggling to do basically anything right now LvM" Go on the website versus arthritis for back stretches and exercises. That really helped when I slipped a disc (was signposted there by my GP) Yoga can help as well
