If a warning helps someone to make a decision whether they should attend or avoid, or helps them emotionally prepare for something (clumsily worded but I'm sure you know what I mean), then what's the issue?

I'm lucky enough to not need the usual trigger warnings but they don't do me any harm.

As with most things, better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

Trouble is... If we attempt to protect or forewarn everything... We don't develop any resilience or our own coping strategies when things don't go precisely the way we are comfortable with. There's a balance to be had. "protecting us" in the short term isn't always protecting us in the longer term. Who chooses what is offensive or distasteful for me?

Exactly. You weren’t warned so it’s somebody else’s fault . Doesn’t bode well in my opinion.
