.....no, not the number of times Mr KC and I have fornicates recently, but the number of times I had to dial my doctor's surgery this morning before actually being able to a) get a dial tone AND b) someone answer. It took me 1hr and 4min of doing nothing else but dialling. At one point, it did ring for 2 minutes, 11 seconds but they hung up on me. That was about 150 dials in.

What other task can you not avoid but you know is going to send your blood pressure soaring, even before you begin?!

This. I had it recently in A&E, I was fairly sure I wasn't dying so I wasn't too annoyed because there's always someone who could be. But the waiting and not hearing anything for hours is pretty... I don't want to say "annoying" but something similar

I would say I’m shocked but sadly I’m not. I got through to them once to be told “do an online consultation” it was for a skin issue which a doctor needed to physically see. So frustrating.

I hope you get through in the end and get sorted x

I was told to book a phone appointment for an initial physio assessment on my knee before Told the receptionist that that was pointless, made to do it anyway, called the physio who then told me they couldn't do that over the phone so had to book an in person for two weeks later

I caught my thumb in a car door and needed an xray and stitches. Not broken so that's something.

Unfortunately there is a massive disconnect between what is expected of A&E and what it can actually provide. And often people choose to go to A&E when it may not be the right place for them. That has a number of knock-on effects - long waits, crowding, violence and aggression against staff, patients with true emergencies having to wait longer to access care or even choosing not to go....

Oh no, even the physio was confused as to why they'd told me to call. To be fair the receptionist has a track record for asking people specifically what's wrong trying to diagnose them, I got fed up with her snooping once and gave her a very graphic explanation.

"Oh... so you need a doctor then?"

"Yes please, like I asked"

GP's receptionist are a front line of defence to stop people from bothering Doctors right?

I swear this conversation has taken place at my GP's after one of the receptionists has hung up on me:

"What did that idiot want"

"He only insisted on seeing a bloody doctor"

"What an arsehole, did you hang up on him?"

"Yeah"

I was given a phone appointment at 10:10, once I'd finally got through earlier. I've JUST got off the phone from them, almost an hour late. I'd avoided getting any food because I didn't want to be eating when they rang. I got some food at 11:05 and guess what?!

The advanced practitioner on the phone was very nice. The only problem is she cannot issue a note for my employer. I did make it clear on the phone earlier that I would need that. She will "see if a doctor can do it today" but couldn't promise anything. They have issued antibiotics though, for which I am grateful.

I have a bag of rubbish I need to take to the bins. Just one bag, but it's full and a bit smelly and needs to be out of my flat pronto.

The only issue is that if I step one foot out of my door I know I will bump into the cleaner who, once she has you, won't let you go.

I've been in the lift before now and she's held the lift door open to carry on talking to me, stopping me making a getaway.

No amount of "I really should get back to work", "best leave you to it", "Oh look at that, I have a meeting starting in 14 seconds so need to head off" makes any impact whatsoever, and I end up with the wild-eyed look of a cornered fox as I consider leaping from a second floor window to escape.

First world problems but it's all very traumatizing!

One of my cousins insists on treating A&E like the local pharmacy, just popping in for a bit of advice (the baby has been constipated for three days/my foot feels a bit funny when I stand on tiptoe/I picked up a heavy bag and my shoulder has been sore ever since - all real things she's gone to A&E with). Such a twat.

I was hoping she'd pack it in with the current crisis situation but she was there last week with an ear infection that could've been diagnosed via teleconsult with the doctors, then she complained about the long wait in there.

Honestly, the bloody mind bloody boggles.

The problem is getting through to your doctor though! My morning of over an hour and 281 constant redials was only possible because I am too unwell to go to work and Mr KC went to work late so he could do the school run. Normally, between 8-9am, I am getting myself and a 4yo ready for school (with one functional leg) and driving to school/dropping off and heading to work. If I have an issue that does not stop me working but for which I need an appointment, I simply cannot get through. Once I'm at work (education) I have no chance of sitting for an hour on constant redial. We used to have an online booking system but they got rid of it when the pandemic started and it's never been reinstated. There's an online form to fill in, but if you answer it honestly, it regularly refuses to take you further, stating "this is an urgent issue, please phone your GP; call 111 or attend an urgent care centre." That's what it told me when I tried to use it last night, because my symptoms have lasted longer than a week.

I can understand why people decide to go to A&E. I don't agree with it, but I do understand.

Needed to speak to mine about 3 weeks ago.

154 times before I got through and they had no slots left to speak to anyone today.....which means you gotta do the same thing the next day. Only took 73 times the following morning so that was a success.

I mean I feel for them as they are clearly under pressure and its been a mental year and a half for anyone connected to the NHS but there has to be a better screening system to get to speak to a GP in this day and age.
