I've literally just realised that I have been tolerating something. Now - in it's absence I feel increased peace.......

What should be tolerated ? Or not .......

In any sphere of your life

Can I ask why do you think you feel increased peace? Because tolerance seems a bit forced feeling?

In this case yep. I mask things well. A life of having to but ..... I feel light and airy.. weird.

Not weird! Relief .. release.. recovery. Now you can breathe better - no mask.

I have very little tolerance for things that encroach on my boundaries or values. I’m way too old to be putting up with stuff anymore that I don’t need to

You should only tolerate things you have no right to interfere with. Everything else you should either seek to accept, or change.

Easier said than done - in practice, you may have to tolerate something until you have the strength/resources/energy to devote to changing it. In its own way, intentionally deciding that you want to change something, but can't yet, is a form of (temporary) acceptance.

But ultimately you will probably grow to resent tolerating something over the medium term.
