It ended with Tom Baker and had a brief resurgence with Tennant but everything in between and since has been rubbish.

Nonsense.

Jodie’s a boss. I love the show right back to the Hartnell era. It changes with the times, budget and audience. Nothing wrong with that.

Agree. Having a woman play the part is a valid route for the the show to explore after 55 years but they chose the wrong actor. And the bbc did it for the wrong reasons (to generate publicity, which to me seems quite cynical, to secure the services of Chibnall who made it clear he wanted him to become a her and to satisfy a vocal minority of the audience who were demanding it. We know it was a minority because a majority view would be reflected in the ratings and the general public perception of the show) Died a few stories before Capaldi left for us.

This thread has opened an old wound lol

No there isn't anything wrong with change. The writing and episodes from since Whittaker started has declined though.

I thought the 1st episode of this series was much better than some of the last. I watch it for my mind to escape for a while, not to have life lessons being thrown at me. That however is down to the writers rather than the actors fault.

It's not that the new woman is a bad Dr.

The new writers have been just awful. I'm hoping the new series will pan out better with the continuing storyline (1st episode was ok), rather than trying to fit some pc agenda or skewed history lesson into every episode (it was almost like the writers watched some Star Trek TNG and thought let's rewrite this with the Dr in it, no one will notice).

Remember all the Doctor who's from my childhood but my favorite 2 were from the reboot

If Christopher Eccleston hadn't done such a good job then it wouldn't have taken off

David Tennant has given me the best ever memories of watching telly with 2 of my kids at the time

When an episode finished with him about to die and regenerate we were standing on the couch roaring, when he met Rose in Bad Wolf Bay we were shouting "Rose Tyler I love you" because he never said it.

His last 20 mins saying goodbye especially to Wilf but then while regenerating saying "I don't want to go " is so powerful

Still brings tears to my eyes when I watch it on YouTube

They hired the wrong writer not the wrong actor. With a decent writer behind her Jodie could be an excellent Dr.

I have to say that I much prefer the "old" Doctors.

That said Tennant was amazing & the only decent one of the reboot.

Haven't wanted to watch it since he left (though I agree Matt Smith was passable)

I liked Christopher Eccleston, but David Tennant was also very good. I remember watching the very first Doctor, William Hartnell, and was mortified as a child when he regenerated into Patrick Troughton, but soon grew to accept him.

I’ve not really watched it much since Matt Smith left. Saw an episode or two with Capaldi and wasn’t a fan. I’m just sat watching the first episode I’ve ever seen with Whitaker and I’ve got to say it seems weak.

I’d like to see a retro 60’s style treatment, with a good script, in pin sharp black and white, David Tennant, lots of old cars and props , and the Daleks

Disagree.

Jodie's portrayal as the Dr is shocking. She even admitted herself she knew nothing of the Show's history, the actors who came before or their own portrayals of the character. So many worthy actors who were ready to take the helm, and she got it for reasons. I was actually quite excited to see her take on the role, and now I'm devastated. Probably how all the Brexiteers have felt in recent times.

Chibnall is an absolute joke. This "Flux" season is trying to be clever. And it's simply not. The sound editing is atrocious, you can hardly hear what's being said at times. Only plus is as stated, we're not having political agendas force down our throats atm. Only due to the backlash he has received But the show (and BBC) is still pandering to minority audiences. Whilst shitting all over the canonical history of the show. All too little, too late.

RTD won't be able to save it on his return.

Capaldi was a brilliant Dr. One of the best actors we've had. With hint of Hartnell and Pertwee linking him to previous doctors. Just a shame his story material dropped off a cliff.

But as with all Drs, go back and watch his stuff and you'll soon be pining for the good old days

Without wishing to be controversial - a female Dr ? At best she would have been Snr Staff Nurse Who and in her very first episode she crashed the tardis - and I think we all know she wouldn’t have a clue how to use any screwdriver - let alone a sonic one !!! and who will save the universe when she goes on 3 years maternity leave?? I wouldn’t put it past a Dalek to get her knocked up and they’ll waltz right in while she’s busy watching Loose Women!!

I've watched the first two episodes of The Flux and enjoyed it.

Pertwee and Baker where ace and had me hiding behind the settee as a kid back in the early to mid 70s.

Genesis Of The Daleks has to be the greatest DW serial.

For me Tennant was a bit cheesey but Matt Smith nailed it.

Jodie Whittaker has done a great job but the story writing has been a bit naff.

Watched it from the late 60’s the latest incarnation has lost me. It’s just woke crap. The story lines are awful and Jodie doesn’t fit. No issue with a woman at all she’s just not right for it. It’s been hijacked by self interest
