Sticky Toffee Pudding

Bought one from the store and tried it for the first time and thought the sauce was a bit thick and sickly. Then I read the ingredients which said it had CHOPPED DATES in it!

Is it normal for it to have those in there?

Some restaurants are serving this delicacy with ice cream only. Food standards agency have been contacted. Custard only (hot).

I thought this was an appreciation thread.

I bloody LOVE sticky toffee pudding and I don't like dates. I think you just got a wrong un. Try one at a proper pub with some custard and you may change your mind. One of my very favourite English things!

I do know it's irrational for me to not like them but I don't and won't eat anything that I know has them in.

Dates remind me of cockroaches. I lived in Cyprus for 3 years and woke from sleep one night screaming and we had an infestation with them all over the place crawling on me and my brother.

Yes it's irrational and I know that, to be scared of an insect now, but I still am and dates have been associated with them since then.

Shop bought sticky toffee pudding can be too heavy and the sauce cloying. I make my own. The longer you soak the dates first the better. It should be light and the sauce is lovely if done right.

But what's this about eating it with custard?!

I would only ever have it with cream

Maybe. It was a store-bought and from Aldi so prehaps my expectations shouldn't have been too high
