How long does it take to do your hair? This is more a question for all us ladies but we don’t discriminate here

Do you have any routines that you do to your hair?

It takes me A LIFETIME to do my hair, usually just 30-40 mins to blow dry it (and I’ve got one of them hair salon powerful ones) and then another 20-30 to do use a GHD on it (like hot brush + quick whiz with a normal GHD)

Finish it all off with some good oils

But if I count the hair mask to begin with (sits for 30-40 mins), and washing it. I’d spend almost the whole morning fucking about with my hair

I am a skanky bitch and wash it once/twice a week at most as I wouldn’t have a life anymore if I washed it every other day

What about you girls?

I'm the worst for haircare. You're going to wince and potentially cry but I wash my hair with a shampoo bar, sometimes smother a conditioner bar on the ends. Let it air dry and that's it.

I don't brush my hair often (I hate it) so very rarely straighten my hair too.

I have it tied up the majority of the time because it's so long and just gets in the way.

Curly girl method.

In the week it’s very fast.

If I’m going out I just need to wash, gel, style and dry. And I don’t have a diffuser so it’s air dry.

Times it badly for a date last week and although my curls looked amazing, I was literally dripping at the table.

Need that diffuser

I have typical Celtic hair which drives me insane! It’s like taming a beast most days haha! I can spend an hour straightening it, step outside and the moisture in the air makes it instantly curl! If I washed mine more than once or twice a week, it literally would live in a different county to me, it goes huge Miss pc

I've had very short hair since I was a kid, so after growing it out over lockdowns I now have no idea at all what to do with it and it just sits in a mop of frizz on my head.

Takes me maybe ten minutes to blow dry, maybe 5 minutes to run straighteners over it if it's looking particularly Crystal Tipps on a given day. Tuck it behind my ears and don't think about it 90% of the time. I'll occasionally tie it back if it's in my way, but it's never more than an elastic at the nape of the neck, so doesn't exactly take time to style!

Depends on how I want my hair. If I am going somewhere and have the time to the day prior I wash it and put it in a good old vintage wet set (either rag rollers or foam ones) takes me about 10-15 mins to put them in now. Then another 10-15 mins on the brush out the following day and it holds it style for days.

If I don't have time the day before and do it on the day including drying takes me about 1.5 to 2 hours, my hair is very thick and bra strap length so my arms get tired and if I am feeling lazy....plats it is

My hair routine - day to day, I'm a lazy mare and pin it back with a kirby grip into a quick low chignon (a very helpful flight attendant taught me!). I do run some coconut oil through it before sleep and use a silk bonnet and pillowcases to prevent breakage. If I'm curlying it up I'll do a quick refresh and pop a silk bandana in to make it more manageable.

Wash day is almost a whole day. Section hair, hot oil treatment, wrap it, leave it to do its thing for a hour, wash out, leave in conditioner, plop, air dry... and then if I'm feeling really meh/unsure about myself I'll give in and blow dry it.

I've been taking biotin tablets and they've made such a difference to my hair.

My routine is simple, I use Dove shampoo and conditioner, hot oil once a week.

Blow dried, straighten with cloud 9 straigtners, no product, never use gel, hairspray or serum. Takes about 30 minutes from washing to styling

So much! I could never grow my hair past my shoulders and now it's bra length, thicker, doesn't break. I take the perfectil vitamins daily - I stack offers on Boots when available (like three for two, £5 off when you spend £20) and it means I get a good few months supply for not much at all.

It might be placebo but I doubt it.

The longest i went without cutting it was about 8 years. It was about knee length at that point. (I'd get stopped in the street and everyone wanted to talk to me about it).

I try and keep it at a sensible shoulder length now. I wash it twice a week (sometimes only once a week though in the winter months).

But I've had it shaved off when i was a teenager - i quite liked how that looked too.

I think everyone should experiment with hair, if you're able to grow it. (If you can't, shave it off - that looks cool too i think...if the grass doesn't grow, get a patio..)

My daily hair routine is to get the clippers out of the bathroom cabinet and ensure my hair is adequately short enough that it can barely be seen. It's only the back and sides that need doing though as been nothing on top for about 20 years... .

"

What is the curly girl method?"

It's just a hair care method for curly hair but it's tailored to each individual person (I say tailored - the person has to try different products in the "OK" list and choose what works for them). The big thing about it though is not using shampoo as it's not good for your hair. Cowash/plopping/diffusing is the main things about it. And staying away from sulfate and silicone products.

My hair is mega long at the moment and I use a modified curly girl method. I tend to let it air dry or the car is my hairdryer. I find heat and brushing makes it all brittle so avoid as much as possible. And I wash it every other day else it rebels big time on me.

My hair is very low maintenance. It is very long, naturally blonde and wavy. I never blow dry it unless going on a night out, to give it more volume. It’s not as thick as it used to be, but you can’t have it all.

I don’t brush it everyday, as it kinda suits the bed head look. My kids are always telling me off for having knotty hair though - talk about role reversal!

Getting it cut on Saturday for the first time since Covid hit. I can get away with the untidy look because it’s wavy rather than straight!

Wash it in the shower every morning. Shampoo once, rub in conditioner and allow to soak in while scrubbing the rest of me, rinse out. Quick towel dry, brush out tangles while wet, comb straight. Air dries while eating breakfast, and falls naturally into loose waves.

"Curly girl method.

In the week it’s very fast.

If I’m going out I just need to wash, gel, style and dry. And I don’t have a diffuser so it’s air dry.

Times it badly for a date last week and although my curls looked amazing, I was literally dripping at the table.

Need that diffuser

Your curls are beautiful! Did you find that Boots product in the end? "

I did! I’ve got quite the collection of products you’ve recommended now.

Although I think the UG stuff is the best. I only have the gel amd the shampoo but the gel really helps define the curls and the shampoo is so light, my hair actually feels better after using it instead of stripped when I was using the baby shampoo

I just need to book on my with girl Denise to get my hair trimmed but she’s so busy.

It’s so funny, I was a ski head until I was 25ish. And you really take for granted that anyone can cut your hair.

I went through like 8 hairdressers this year before finding Denise. Curls are tough. You gotta find a hairdresser that just knows what you need.

hey i made to 50 with a fullish head of hair, anything else is a bonus, carbolic soap head to toe and a good going over with lysol wipes... I just use her shampoo and stuff really, think it's that tressamay comes in the big plastic bottles same for the conditioner. If I can't find that when I'm in the shower I just use shower gel all over, lick of Sure roll on and if you are lucky, I may add a squirt of Joop sport, the green one. Not as fruity as original JOOP it's more daytime fresh.

Only wash it once a week and in as cold a water as I can stand (helps to preserve my colours) then tonnes of conditioner and wrap while I wash, shave legs etc, so at least 30 mins. Then back to cold water to rinse out conditioner. Brush and leave to air dry, which takes hours.

If I am going out and want it straight or curly (instead of normal kinda wavy half straight affair) then because it's so thick I need a good 3 hours so more like 4 and a half when you count in tired arm breaks etc

Dirty hair, clean body is pretty much my motto for life!"

I stand by it !!!

As I said, if I washed it more than twice a week I’d just be spending my life cleaning my hair x I just got a lot of it as well so that’s a pain …

"How long does it take to do your hair?

Well I normally get a No8, dont do hair at all.

I don't really have anything useful to add, for me it is towel then brush (brushing is optional, I sometimes forget) but ..... 30 - 40 minutes to blow dry? What are you using, an asthmatic worm? Or does your head just leak water?

Wash if about three times a week (depends if I have a wash in wash out colour on it, I'll use dry shampoo in-between), sometimes I dry it and sometimes I don't. Brush it and off I go. Can't remember the last time I went to the hairdresser's, been cutting it myself since before lockdown

Top up colour every fortnight.

Weekly hair mask. Wash it once a week maybe twice.

Daily generally tied back - I work in a high head louse area so its safer that way.

When I go out I either curl with sponge rollers that can take 12 hours or heat rollers 30 mins and then styling that can take between 5 and 30 mins depending on if I've prayed to the hair gods prior to starting.

so before the baby my hair was my crown and i had 18” extensions as well to thicken it so it would take a while, washing and drying was a full evenings work. since the baby came along and i had my extensions removed ( my hair is just below shoulder now) i was it every other day if i’m lucky and dry shampoo the rest of the time. when i do wash it I literally wash and let it dry naturally and spend 5 mins running the straightener through before going out

To answer the original question, it probably takes about 30 mins to wash.

(I let it dry naturally, no hair dryers).

Sometimes during the week I'll use crochet hooks to tidy each dreadlock, this process only takes about 10 mins though.

Wash twice a week in pretty cool water to preserve the colour, blow drying takes me ten minutes tops, don't straighten as it's pretty much naturally straight, will only do it if going out etc.

Desperately in need of a cut though as it's not been done since before lockdown last year and it's getting way too long and unmanageable as I need layers put back in and lives in a bun half the time.

I have the most unruly hair It takes ages to tame it properly, so I don't bother most of the time...although even then drying takes about 20 minutes, and straightening the same.

A silk pillowcase, silk scrunchies, and a boar bristle brush have been game changers...but the slightest bit of humidity and I'm back to looking like I have troll hair

"I'm the worst for haircare.

Don't feel bad, I'm exactly the same I hate washing my hair too so I only do it once max twice a week.

Brush it to get out loose hair, shampoo and conditioner, towel dry, occasionally scrunch in sea salt spray and leave it to do its thing. It doesn't need anything else except a regular cut and colour. The less you do, the more you're hair will thank you.

"

What is the curly girl method?

It's just a hair care method for curly hair but it's tailored to each individual person (I say tailored - the person has to try different products in the "OK" list and choose what works for them). The big thing about it though is not using shampoo as it's not good for your hair. Cowash/plopping/diffusing is the main things about it. And staying away from sulfate and silicone products. "

Thank you. No shampoo.

Manchester (she/her)

Bastardised curly girl method/wavy girl method. Wash (low poo, conditioner, occasionally treatment - detangle while conditioning), rinse then cold rinse. Leave in conditioner or hair oil, a silly amount of gel, scrunch in. Turban for half an hour while doing other things, cold diffuse (20-40 minutes) then clap out the crunch. Probably an hour all told.

Non wash day refresh, scrunch hair with water to dampen, a bit of gel, diffuse - 20 minutes.

If I'm not bothering, air dry with towel around shoulders if I've washed it, two minutes to brush and tie up if dry.

I use alberta balsam shampoo, then conditioner. I use a towel to slightly dry the ends. Then i comb it. Then put in some stuff that supposed to stop frizz etc. I use it because it smells nice

It air drys. Sometimes once it's dry i put my fingers through it. I never brush or comb my hair after the initial comb when it's washed.

I have naturally curly hair. I'm always told it looks fantastic "
