Metaverse was recently touted by Zuckerberg as facebook's planned virtual world. And it all looks so cringeworthy and creepy to me all at once.

Only read bits on that I’m not gonna google and try look like I know about that toss pots idea to bring it to life i hate that man but I don’t know enough to give you a decent opinion

The podcasts really centered around how near we are to this it was with the auther of the book did you listen to it ??

You'd be surprised the effect of even bog standard VR in this era. I tried it and I could have sworn I felt things that weren't even there. And things will get way more advanced.

I just looked it up and yeah i had ready Player one. I would never of read it normally as not my kind of book. I do know i read it once then had to go back to bits but enjoyed it kinda. Im trying to think what brought me to that book. I think it may of been after I read Matthew Rielys The Tournament.

Read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson and don't let it's undoubted cool fool you!

Except the graphics in films are not real time and require lots of computing power. It will take a while before they will be able to create 'photo realistic' at the speed required

Agreed it will take time, but I do not believe it will be 'never'.

ToyStory level graphics used to take up to 30 hours per frame to render. Within 20 years they were able to be surpassed in real-time.

Having watched some of the keynote video that Zuckerberg posted, it certainly seems like he wants Meta to emulate the Oasis. Some of the ideas for how it might function once properly launched look interesting, especially the group meeting ideas.

A virtual world to escape to? A bit like opium dens of the past, letting you hallucinate another world in your sleep. Humans have always tried to escape. You have to come back and pay your bills at some point. All sounds like bollocks to me.

Toy story isn't exactly photo realistic though.

I do agree it will happen eventually when the computing power becomes readily available.
