Style of Christmas Decorations

When it comes to decorating the house with Christmas decorations, do you go with a modern and up to date style or do you go with a classic retro look?

I always go with a retro look when I decorate my house. It certainly makes the house look nice and busy with streamers and tinsel everywhere lol

I am minimal... I only have a 6 inch tree because some arse bought it for me and wants proof it's up, every year... Christmas can go fuck itself as far as I am concerned... Other religious celebrations can also do one

My theme is blush pink and white on the tree. I have a beautiful wreath for my front door which is also decorated with blush pink. I have a garland on my stair bannister that I attach with cable ties. Lights on the roof, porch and windows. Some wooden decorations and then some small ceramic Christmas figures that I’ve had since I was a child.

I go modern and fit in with my lounge which is grey and teal so the tree is decorated with blues greens and silvers.

I love big traditional displays with reds and greens but it doesn’t suit my house

Very nice. I put gold tinsel on my bannister and tie it at both ends

I have a huge clothes airer hanging above the kitchen breakfast bar. During the year it’s adorned with greenery and flowers but a Christmas it becomes my Christmas tree!

It will be covered in ribbons and tinsel and I will hang baubles on invisible thread at different lengths so it appears they are floating. The colour scheme is teal, pale blue and silver

It’s looks absolutely stunning! I’ll share pics at the time

Probably up to date mostly. Keep with the classic Christmas colours if red and God on the tree, have a light up wreath for the door as well

I've been lucky to find some of the retro decorations I have at car boot sales and charity shops.

I even do a nice little Christmas display in the back window of the dining room.

Blush pink and gold and white for my decorations And tree .Have a big light up bow for my front door And will get a real tree 7 foot.To be honest I go a bit obsessed with Christmas .xx

I go full on random, colourful and quirky at christmas, the more random the better, we try and find really odd decorations every year and I love it. All the colours of the rainbow, but pink, blue, purple and green are the main base colours. We've got dinosaurs, crabs, flamingos, llamas sausage dogs, robots, all the woodland creatures and all thinks hand made, especially by the kids.

Just a tree and and a few snow globes and stuff, the worst bit is i won't have my little partner in tree vandalism this year, little patterdale indoor trees are the best thing ever you would think, one of his rope toys went in by accident a few years back the dog followed the tree went one way and then the other possibly the closest we both came to being homeless at xmas.

I used to have a huge tree and go all out at Christmas but then I got cats, then some more (5 to be exact) and they used to climb the thing, chew through the wires, smash the baubles, knock the tree over and so on. I've given in and got a cute little table top one now.

My lounge is duck egg blue, cream and grey. I try to match it wherever possible, but try not to be too precious about it. I prefer modern and sleek, but cosy!

my dog was tree friendly if you left him to it used it like a farmyard backscratcher used to go round and round slowly all the little bells would jingle, cute as hell, no way he got the blame for diving in.

My tree is filled with vintage tat that I have collected over the years. Loads of knitted Santa's and snow men, gaudy baubles and wierd looking birds. Its very kitsch.

My window is a pagan throwback with a log decorated with pine cones and Holy and winter forest creatures.

Very traditional. Red, green, gold, tartan. Lots of fun, interesting stuff I've collected over a lot of years though and a lot of very sentimental bits and bobs. I buy two new decorations every year and donate two old ones to keep it fresh.

Kind of traditional but with my own twist. I'm planning on making a foliage piece for the mantel this year, all wild, hedgerowesque. I've been making my own wreath for the past few years and I'm feeling (possibly misguided) confidence.

The tree has decorations that all have sentimental value/are presents from loved ones, we normally have paper chains (high ceilings) and some candles dotted about.

Last few years we have had our 6ft tree up adorned in rainbow decorations dating back to the 1940s.

I start at the top and work a rainbow moving down in bands of colour and it looks really effective.

This year contemplating using the bigger tree
