I am sure it's not something new but still very annoying when someone chats for ages and then suddenly disappear and no longer on site. I appreciate sometimes there may be good reasons but it feels such a waste of time and energy in investing in a good conversation and you don't even get the chance to say goodbye

Yes that happens too. At least you have not wasted your time chatting for ages (as that is certainly important to me to find out a bit about each other and such like). I suppose as everyone already said it happens and we move on. Live and learn

Thats very efficient. Its also much nicer and more 'human' meeting someone than messaging.
