"Its one big shite show pretending that they care but not a huge amount has changed in the last 26 years and probably won't in the next 26 . I do wonder how much damage is done with all the delegates flying and driving around the world to all these meetings each year " I often hear this argument, usually leveled at people like Greta. There were 4.3 BILLION air passengers in 2018. That doesn't include freight or military flights. The impact made by each delegate is very small and a price will worth paying if it results in policy changes that have the potential to do far more good than the carbon cost of a few flights. Its a bit like complaining about a surgeon wasting a bit of the patients blood as they operate to stop them bleeding to death from a stab wound. The little bit of blood lost in surgery isn't the problem, the problem is the big fuck off gaping hole that needs fixing. Mr

"I am sorry to say that those who rule the world are all too old and self interested to view climate change as a threat to themselves. Thus, they will only pay lip-service to the people calling for action whilst ensuring social media denies the effect of their inaction as they and their financial backers remain happy and rich for the rest of their natural life. As a consequence climate change is inevitable. In 75 to 100 years, long before it becomes too hot for humans to survive the heat, vast and ever increasing areas of the world will become unable to sustain their populations and the mass migrations of millions of desperate people will start. These migrants will be resisted at the man made borders of habitable lands by people with guns. Then the migrants will get guns and all out war will ensue. Eventually, as the habitable lands shrink inexorably to nothing, humanity will annihilate itself but the planet will continue just fine. In time the survivors of this cataclysmic event, like the cockroaches and tardigrades, will meet and comment how peaceful it is without those bloody humans. And evolution will start again. " Sadly, I think a lot of this will come true - and provably a lot sooner than 75 - 100 years. Mr

It is quite churlish to moan about how these world leaders got here if their presence brings about a real way forward.

But I will not hold my breath.

"Will family planning be on the agenda ? " It should be. Population size is the elephant in the room. The problem is our financial systems are based around continuous sustained growth. That requires a growing population. Obviously this cannot continue indefinitely but a forced population crash brought about by climate induced famine has to be a far worse scenario than a planned economic slow down. Mr
