In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I'm going out on a limb and saying that...

A) nothing I listen to will be in there

B) there may be some musicians and singers in there

I've no clue. I'm so out of touch with the young people.

Nope

...which I guess isn’t a bad thing when we consider music nowadays in comparison to the 1950’s - 1990’s is significantly lacking...

Pretty sure that's because we hear the best of the 50's and 60's while we hear everything good or bad now.

in that era they managed to set the benchmark creating Legends which led to aspire musicians who seem to fall significantly short of that level in calibre nowadays...

Maybe, but there's only so much you can innovate when what is considered "great" has already been done. Also, we're looking at modern artists through today's lens. Who's to say in 30, 40 years today's musicians won't be considered legends?

We live in hope, but is doubtful given that 20-30 years have already surpassed and not one musician to-date has shown that calibre of genius in them when comparing them to the greats of old...

No I can't. At one stage in my life I couldn't imagine how anybody could be out of touch with current music, now I know it's quite easy.

I do think it's important to be at least aware on some level of current trends though, it keeps your mind open and your opinions fresh.

I literally have no clue, but judging by the amount of times Adele has been heard blasting from the workmen’s radio recently, I’m guessing she’s up there? Can’t say I liked the song mind haha! Miss pc

I think this is where generational differences come in though, right? Personally, I can name more great bands of the 70s and 80s than the 50s and 60s. What's great and genius to you will most likely be different to what's great and genius to today's listeners.

In general, the quality is very poor nowadays in comparison to the 50’s - 90’s music. What matters today is not talent, it’s not skills, it’s not creativity, today people are known and listened by a large public, what we call pop arts because they have access to a powerful and ubiquitous media. Media that can influence people’s habits and behavior independetly of their content.

The entire foundation of today’s culture is consumption. We have also to take into account that only a product of middle or poor quality can reach a huge audience. Maybe it’s not even quality that counts anymore but rather some artist’s personality or character. He’s funny, she’s sexy, they are a meme : that’s what counts today, to reach a large public and to sell more through them.

We have to see an artist today, a musician, more like a product. A product that we can consume. More like a package of products that goes with I. A singer that at the same performs songs promotes a product (a Britney parfume or a random rapper’s sneakers), promote habits (go to a Greek island) or propaganda (Nike shoes, Budweiser beer).

Today, you can’t consume Bach or Beethoven, it’s too complcated to be undestood by the mass, it’s hard to sell in package (there is no Bach or Beethoven parfume) it’s to hard to be executed and appreciated in a fast paced society like ours.

I can but hope that the future is bright l, but given that AI will soon be a force to be reckoned with and youths thinking they know better without having gained the practical knowledge, etc. I very much doubt the heart and soul can be overcome when we look at geniuses of old in comparison to the quality being produced today.

Still, like I said we live in hope.
